Bad tune or bad driving?

I have heard of a few EVO's that have gotten tuned at Vishnu that have had problems with their motors. I heard this through a friend of mine so I am the third party but supposedly "they" said the tune wasn't that great. I don't have any names and I'm certainly not saying Vishnu isn't a great shop but it makes me a little hesitant to get a tune knowing that this has happened to other people. Anyone have anything experiences to add?

Wow, talk about a broad statement. I wonder how many cars that were tuned by other tuners have had problems with their engines? Pretty hard to single anyone out, don't you think when there are so many variables that can be put into the equation....

Might want to be more specific...

My 2004 RS was tuned by Shiv in Dallas and the car ran superbly. Afterwards I added some other mods and had it tuned in Austin by MZM and it ran superbly. My IX was again tuned in Austin and runs great. If I beat the crap out of my car, there is a chance that it might have engine problems. User error/abuse seems to be a greater factor in engine failure than tuner error....

Just my .02

I know on Socal evo, they dont really like shiv (or Al, for that fact). But then again, they think using a SAFC is a good way to tune an evo.

I wasn't thrilled with my tune or the way I was treated. I know others also that had issues. Just because we had problems doesn't mean you will.

And don't get on Shiv's bad side. He'll make a post in the "customer review forum" when they get that part of the site up.

Hey Brett,
Now that you have spent over 10,000 dollars getting de-vishnuized, what kind of power are you making?

I know Tom has some opinions on this, and if he wants to, I'll let him share.

I have only heard of a few "blown" engines from Vishnu. One happened on the dyno (threw a rod) and Shiv was very public about this. I think there was another guy racing his car on a race gas map that if he had to do all over again he would have run his pump map on race gas.

I was there when Brett's car was on the dyno. The only thing I heard was that the design of the adaptor made it difficult to get to the wastegate. I think this has become a he said, she said debate.

MAYBE Shiv should have split the difference with you on the tune. Stuff happens, especially with brand new kits. I think it's the price of being an early adopter.

Why don't you pm me the site, maybe I can hook up with some old friends. The only thing which irked me, was getting to a dyno-date close to me. That was it.

BTW, there are some well known tuners whose engines blow up, but it's all kept hush-hush. It has never even made it to the forums.

I've had two custom tunes by Shiv prior to Vishnu's move out of Pleasanton. Shiv provided me with nothing short of an A++ quality tune each time! Any questions or concerns of mine were always answered by phone or via this forum prior and after the tunes. I will continue to use Vishnu as my tuner of choice as long as I have my evo.

I am just shy of 56K on the odometer as of today. Over 30K of those miles on Shiv's tune. Still pulling hard as f**k and running great. Your Evo is in good hands with Shiv behind the wheel, his laptop plugged in and your wheels spinning the dyno.

I know of one car that through a rod while I was tuning it. It was a Stg 2 car being tuned on race gas. I don't know of any others that have had engine failures with our tuning. Lotsa rumors. But no names. Anyone care to share this info with us?

There is supposedly a "secret" club, where you need to know the secret handshake to get into the site, but he is not coughing up any links on it. You hear bad from all camps, just didn't know there was a "secret" Shiv/Vishnu bashing site. where it the info?

A bunch of our local customers go to the street races and routinely wipe up everyone. Especially other evos from other tuning shops. All of them having far more mods. When asked why didn't they get their cars tuned at Vishnu, they responded saying that "i heard from a friend who knows someone that Vishnu is blowing up a lot of engines." And "They tune super aggressively and take too many risks." It's funny because the fastest evos and subarus that run with them have been tuned by us. And none of them have ever had motor problems.

I've traced the history of a few of these rumors to a certain new tuner trying to make a name for himself. That's cool and all. But I find it better to make a name for yourself by doing good work, not spreading bull**** about others. But whatever keeps the world turning.....
