E85 Ethanol Time Attack EVO IX

You heard it here first

We're working on it for Mitsubishi's SEMA and LA Auto Show presentation. We just got delivery of the car last week and the work as already begun. It's going to be pretty neat. Flexi-fuel Evo? Yeah, thats right!

Big thanks to our friends at Mitsubishi who donated a car for the effort!

isnt the car already able to run E85 and just needs proper tuning? with the recent increase in percentage of ethanol in gas, cars are "supposted" to be able to run E85 already.

I believe that what they have at the pump is a 5% mix MAX which doesnt harm the fuel system...

Shiv,
Will the stock fuel system parts handle E85? I now it can destroy some fuel systems. You will beable to run a good amount of boost and timing with E85!

E85 is pretty friendly on fuel systems from the research we've done. We're currently talking with some OEM engineers who are well versed in alternative fuel systems. Doesn't seem very hard, hardware-wise, to make the swap over to E85. The mapping will be tricky. Especially since we are going to use it in conjunction with nitrous. Lots of it. Of course, the second map on the XEDE will be for plain old pump gas just in case

It should be very safe with the nitrous. Even though the E85 is slightly less efficient with a lower target AFR, it is chalk full of Octane. I think E85 is upwards of 100 octane, will support very high HP numbers, esp on boosted cars, with just a 10% loss in fuel efficiency.

Shiv, your car should be a monster on e85. Not to mention that is should only cost $2.00 a gallon..

From what ive read, most cars should run e85 withoout any major fuel system upgrades, the only thing Ive heard, is that it is required to change your fuel filter just 1 tank after your first E85 fillup because it will remove ALL of the varnish from the tank and clog up the filter.

There were a few turbo mustang guys with late model fox's who did E85 with literally NO fuel system changes and were able to make 600WHP with relatively high boost due to the octane content.

Where are you gettin E85. I know in LA, i havent found any locations that sell it..

Appearantly, we can get it locally from the Lawrence Livermore Lab. Chances are that we will hit someone up for an ethanol sponsorship though

Great to hear Shiv!

Do you think you will use this IX to compete in the One-Lap or anyother events?

(I hope it comes to the Detroit Auto Show )

We do plan to do One Lap again this upcoming year. It's a bit too early to tell if it will be in this car or another. It would be pretty cool winning our class in a green car, wouldn't it?
