You guys know I've been jonesing for E85 for years.. I am going to do some research about availability in the northeast considering the weather changes

I would definitely consider running E85 on my Evo VIII.

Shiv, would the choice in camshaft selection change to enhance the preformance capabilities of E85?

Shiv, i am wondering if you guys changed anything else on the car, like had to use a custom fuel cell or anything. I thoght there was talk of E85 being corrosive...

I wondering what your findings were in regards to this...

Nope. Think of e85 behaving just like (or a bit better) 100oct race gas. With the only exception that more fuel is needed to support the same power output. So the only hardware consideration has to do with the fuel system. Things like turbos, cams, exhaust etc,. should still be addressed in the same manner.

I found out that they have E85 available in my area for only $2.11 a gallon. I was talking to the owner and he told me that it is corrosive. He said it is very corrosive for aluminum and running it on a regular basis can ruin your fuel lines or potentially your engine. But hell I'll run it on the weekends for the track, it cost less then 89 octane gas lol.

Do I need a flash and pump to run it? Or can I just go to the pump and use it? I have a evo 8 BTW

For those of you unfamiliar with E85.

That's certainly not going to work. First, the 680cc injectors only flow 20% more and stoichiometric for e85 is lower than that. Second, more timing will obviously be needed to take advantage of the extra octane.

That's what I thought. A stock IX makes 215-220whp on that dyno. How much does a turned IX make on that particular dyno? (is that the v380 dyno?)

My 2003 EVO 8 is really only a toy to me. I'd order up some injectors and start running straight E85 today If Shiv would give me the map.

Hell I've been running leaded gas for two years instead. This can't be any worse for the fuel system.

If the 30% was a confirmed standard I'd just get some 850cc injectors and run the same map I am now LOL.

Chemically, I think E85 has 72% the energy content of non-oxygenated (sp) gasoline. So if you wanted to run them on your current map, maybe a set of 763cc injectors will work? :-p

Shiv-

Will my AMS style 680cc injectors be enough for the Stage 2 3071 on E85, or do I need to run a little bit less boost to be safe?

E85 is in Nashville at $2.29/gallon.

Please advise us what kind of fuel economy you get on your trip. Thanks!

Seth
