Will my AMS style 680cc injectors be enough for the Stage 2 3071 on E85, or do I need to run a little bit less boost to be safe?

E85 is in Nashville at $2.29/gallon.

Please advise us what kind of fuel economy you get on your trip. Thanks!

Seth
I would think that because Stoich on alcohol is at 6.4:1 and E85 is 85% alcohol and 15% gasoline in closed loop operation the car will do half the milage as it would on Gasoline.....There maybe something I am missing though

For the record, slight correction on the E85 HP After numbers:

looks like its about 330hp/325tq...

Half?! OUCH!
I don't think I could deal with 13mpg on the interstate! And if that's the case, these 680s aren't going to cut it at all!

It's not half. The advocates of ethanol are saying 10-15%, and even the biggest critics say no more than 30%.

EDIT: remember with higher octane, you don't have to run as rich as with 91. I'm sure that the engine would be more thermally efficient as well.

EDIT2: leaner in lambda, not absolte AFR. Obviously you would run richer AFR because stoichiometric is so much lower for enthanol.

....Stoich is an ideal or chemically correct a/f ratio...If you have 15% gasoline in the mix of E85 this will decrease total usage amount so maybe a 30% increase is believable over gasoline...
Remember Stoich on gasoline is 14.7 parts air to 1 part fuel...

After some digging around it seems as though Ethanol has better characteristics than a normal alcohol like methanol...so my appologies I was wrong..here is the best an simplest breakdown I found

Gasoline
net energy content: 42-44 MJ/kg
SAFR: 14.6-14.8
density, typical: .72-.78
heat of vaporisation: 380-500 kJ/kg
boiling temperature: 25-215 degC
typical AFR for maximum power: 12.5
typical octane, approx: 93-102/85-95 RON/MON

Ethanol
net energy content: 26.8 MJ/kg
SAFR: 9.1
density: .79
heat of vaporisation: 845 kJ/kg
boiling temperature: 78 degC
typical AFR for maximum power: 7
typical octane, approx: 111/94

Methanol
net energy content: 19.7 MJ/kg
SAFR: 6.45
density: .79
heat of vaporisation: 1109 kJ/kg
boling temperature: 65 degC
typical AFR for maximum power: 4
typical octane, approx: 112/91

so what would someone like me with a stock evo 8 or ix, would need for parts to run E85 safely daily driven. Is E85 better than race gas? what is the maximum psi boost can u expect to run with the (stock, ix, or 20g-9 turbo)?

Shiv,

Any word on your MPG while heading down to LA?

all this talk is boring.. when are you gonna release a set of stainless steel brake lines? LOL

Gas mileage? MAp availavility?
Or would you sell the complete xede kit with the tank sensor?

Quote: Hiya--- When tuned for max power, we should be seeing power numbers greater than what we would see on race gas. Not only do we get the octane with e85, we also get a huge VE bump from its charge cooling effects. It's like tuning with meth injection-- only a whole lot better in terms of consistency and cylinder-to-cylinder distribution.

Are you goijng to sell the xede with the sensor for this? Will it need to be a custom tune?

In your other post you mentioned "Next step in the build-up is to incorporate xede logic that will allow the user to use any combination of gasoline and e85. Using an alcohol sensor in the fuel tank, the Xede would read the mixture and will actively adjust fuel/timing/boost in realtime. Hope to have that working by xmas."

This sounds really good

Does anyone know where some e85 stations are?

I went to the e85 site but there are no public stations that it lists. I thought Vishnu was in the bay area and i can't find any stations listed :3

Any help would be nice

The majority of the pumps in the midwestern states is labled that the fuel is up to 10% ethanol. It may be 0% and it may be 10%...haven't noticed any pumps with fuel labeled a definte percentage unless it's the 85% mixture.
