Dustin, Andrew or Shiv. please help!

I am the one that bought the Bobby Rahal EVO. It blew out the turbo after 1 month and after the dealer installed the new turbo everything has gone to hell. 2 weeks ago I blew off 3 IC hoses and the BOV has carbon all over it near the spot where it connects to the mounting for the exhaust. At low RPMs in any gear it feels like I'm making little to no boost until 3500-4000 RPMs. It's less "zippy" than my stock 03 evo and this one has about 160 more horsepower. I understand turbo lag but no matter what I do or how I try to take off I just have no power and very nearly stall it in first gear. I checked all the hoses and vac lines and see/feel no leaks. The only thing that sticks out is the BOV spins on the base and has the carbon on it like it's leaking from there. I would love to pull it off and examine it but the bottom bolt is impossible to remove without removing the radiator which is not going to happen parked on a Chicago street. I would be willing to do it if I had a recommendation from someone with experience. Also after the turbo "died" I cleaned all the IC pipes of all the oil that had been released into them but did not clean the BOV. Could this have created the problem. Is the fact that it spins around like it's not really attached be the problem. If so do I need to open it and tighten something and "How To" please. I am 350 miles away from Showcase where the parts were installed and the only place here I would take it is AMS and I have to wait a month before I can get in there.

well im going to be as blunt as possible.........stop screwing with things you dont know about obviously there is a major problem if you have exhaust coming out of you BOV and yes your BOV is supposed to spin 360degrees................my advice stick to your unmodified evo and leave the tuning to people with EXPERIENCE you will only break something you dont understand if i were u i would sell the rahal evo and learn basic turbocharged engine operation first b4 jumping into a modified vehicle or modifing an unmodified vehicle

Sounds like you have a bad boost leak and it's probably the BOV like your saying. You should probably do a boost leak test and see where else its coming from. Get some t-bolt clamps for your intercooler pipes that are busting off while your at it too.

I bought this car with all the mods done to it and had no plans of ever touching the engine. It was a month before I even popped the hood. My tinkering is because I have already took the car to AMS and they looked at the Vishnu system and threw their hands in the air. I was going to have my dealership look at it and find out what was wrong but that was the same weekend all the hoses blew off. It was towed to another dealer and all they could do was reattach everything. I can't let the thing kill itself before I can get it in to be repaired. I understand I am inexperienced in the area I am asking about which is why I asked. People dont ask questions to answers they know.

well i can vouch ams's work is immpeckable but with modified evo's stay away from dealerships they dont know their butt hole from their elbow and also i would have to say that boostedwrx is correct def do a boost leak check and replace the hose clamps with t-bolts and while your at it i would also do a compression test to be sure the motor is intact also check the plugs and make sure they are gapped correctly and not fouled other than that i would have someone with tuning knowledge check the tune if the vehicle has standalone or some sort of aftermarket ems your problem could also be do to low quality fuel or that the vehicle is tuned for a higher quality fuel than you are providing hope my input helps and im sorry for flaming i just got a little ahead of myself

AL...... perhaps you weren't all that far ahead of yourself. It is the wastegate that's leaking. And yes I'm a dumbass :P As for the dealer. They built the car using the Vishnu 550 kit. They built 2 identical cars. One for Andy the owner of the dealership and the Rahals. Shiv tuned both.

sounds like a loose wastegate...get an allen wrench and tighten it down...loosen the top and tighten the bottom and top by rotating back and forth between the two. the bottom is a bish to access, but it's possible.

I removed the wastegate and opened it up. The nut that holds the bottom portion tight had come loose and was venting to atmosphere. I can only assume that since thats the chamber that is connected to the boost solenoid and the IC pipe that whatever the car was telling the wastegate to do it was unable to do. Also whoever put the two halves of the wastegate together folded a few spots over and pressed the diaphram in between the two halves and decreased the maximum push/pull of the diaphram. I'm not sure how much of a problem this could have caused if any at all, but it's nice to see what kind of attention was given to the car before i bought it.

So that fixed it I think. I had a wierd dream that while I was driving back down to Chicago that a modded M5 pulled along next to me and we took off WOT up to 170 side by side. The guy said he had $90k invested into the car and was putting down 410 to the wheels.^.- Felt good running with a high caliber car. Then driving around downtown today a bolt fell out of the turbo and the exhaust leak made it sound like a 88 cavalier z24........ Scavenged a bolt from the engine hoist mount and sealed it up for now.... gonna have AMS put the right length bolt in when I go. Wonder when I'll have a dream about my car not falling apart for more than a week. BY THE WAY. I sent an email to Vishnu about the mods and part numbers on my car and never got a reply. Anyone have the exact parts used in the V550 kit since vishnu doesn't have it on the site anymore?
