Is this something that we will be able to do by upgrading our Xede with software, or will it need to be sent in for an upgrade of its hardware?

Now your talking my language.. Will it have its own UEGO controller, or rely an external input (I'm assuming it will use external wideband UEGO input)

PM me if you want.. I'd be interested in trying it out..

When available, we're hoping that it will require nothing more than a simple firmware update (which most XEDE users should be able to do themselves using the XUpdate software.)

As for the wideband unit, the controller/heater circuitry will be enclosed in an external box that plugs into one of the XEDE's connectors. No wiring necessary. I suspect we will use an LSM11 wideband sensor since that's the one I do all my tuning on at our shop. It's perfectly accurate for any reasonable AFR range and reasonably inexpensive. No price estimate as yet so please don't ask

As for the knock sensing, no additional boxes necessary since the XEDE's circuit board is already wired to listen to knock. We are currently developing the associated software which will allow the user to define their own allowable knock values (in a knock table) as a function of engine speed. When the user defined knock values are exceeded, the XEDE will register a knock event. With this functional, you can use your imagination as to what we can make the XEDE do in response to the registered knock event

The neat thing about this approach is that the factory knock control system still provides a safety net which means that poorly calibrated knock tables will not result in engine failure It's simply a fine-tuning tool for those who want to go for the last 5% of power without absolutely needed to go on a dyno.

Cheers,
Shiv

Oh that is SWEET!!!! I am soo glad I got the Xede and not an AFC with a MBC. Saving $400 doesn't look like such a good deal now, knowing that the AFC and MBC are not expandable like the Xede.

Oh I'm loving this. Having a ture wideband with Xede full time with the car would be awsome. Now I have to figure out how to wire up the det phones to the stereo and I can completely call my self the biggest dork out thier

Boy that would be cool, like set up a AM channel when I'm tooning.

Haha it can be done pretty easy with a cheapo am cd changer interface that accepts rcas. If you have a amp its even easier or you could get a tape player and cans. Thats what I do cause I shudder to think of 650 watts of det coming through my stereo

I know but I made the mistake 10 thousand times in my subaru when you get it youll know what I mean- Its really resonable you can hear the valves and clickyticlick of the engine then WHAP WHAP WHAP you get drilled with det input thats orders of magnitude more powerful than the regular engine sounds evon though they are amplified the same the input is huge

Sure I made one for my always deting Subaru and have donned them about 10 times on the EVO to see how good this Shiv character is Well They sit in the garage cause I look like a dweeb listening to boring amplified engine noise and no knock I have yet to record a distinct knock from the 1&1+ EVO- I thought I might of heard it 1* after 2 back to back 25 minute sessions but it was nit picky at best

Oh the EVO does not knock. Never heard it once on my car. That's why the DSM don't usally blow from detionation like the Subarus do. Also the EVO runs much less ing advance because unlike the scooby motor it takes less ing advance to fire the cyl. Better comustion chamber design. The scoobys are very tough to tune. But boy they kick you in the butt TQ they have is awsome. Like having a N/A motor with a turbo on it. Were the Evo TQ is smooth and flat and constent.

Oh I'm glad I sold my WRX and got the EVO.

Eric
