It was nice to be able to put together faces with the names. I would like to start off by saying thanx to Alamo Autosports for allowing us to use the dyno and have access to his facility. Greatly appreciated. It was very nice meeting all of you guys. It is always nice to be around other enthusiasts who share a common passion, The Evo 8 & WRX (didn't forget you guys).

My journey began at 3a.m. Saturday morning with 6 hours of driving to arrive at Alamo at 9a.m. I would like to start off by saying thank you to MP5 and all of the other guys for allowing me to have my runs early since I was not able to stay the night which meant that my time at Alamo tuning, socializing, helping, was going to have to be short. I wish I could have stayed longer to meet and help you guys a little more but my schedule didn't allow it.

Now for the results, My set up, I believe was the least aggresive at the tuning day, is basically a Stage 0+ w/ Xflash and Buschur 2.5" thermal coated DP and a Buschur racing muffler delete pipe. Basically, Low budget tuning due to check book constraints.
With just a base Stage 0+(93oct) map my car put down 259whp and 255ft. lb. of trq with a little bit of det. and knock. The word at Alamo was that stock Evo's normaly put down around 230whp, so not too bad with just bolt -on and no tuning. On top of all that I had heard that poeple where saying that the dyno was giving lower results than usuall. Nevermind, Let's see what kind of gains where possible.

After 26 runs Shiv was able to tip toe around det. and knock, while smoothing out and fattening up my tune to a max. of 278whp and 271ft. lb. of trq. I have to thank Shiv for his determination in getting the tune just right despite my cars tending to be a little more det. and knock prone than most Evo's.
Shiv had to hold back a little on the aggressiveness concerning the tune because of the little problem. The car (without this little problem) should have been tuned to 280whp+. Oh Well, Luck of the draw.

Despite all that I am VERY pleased with the tune to say the least. The proof is in the driving . The car, now, is so much more consistent and powerful than before. She pulls extremelly hard all the way to about 7k then falls off a bit which is due to the lack of cams or cam gears.

Hindsight is always 20/20 they say and in this situation I would have to agree. In conversation w/ Shiv and some of the other guys I learned that if I would have spent $280 more. In other words ,made my cars tune a full Stage 1 by adding the cam gears I would have alot better results. The reason being is that the cam gears help prevent det. and knock allowing more aggresive boosting and other aggresive map peramiters. With this set-up it was said that my car would be able to acheive 290whp+ easily. That is very good news.

Well, I thought I would be finished in the quest for power but I guess I am not. This is addictive I must say. I am looking forward in getting the cam gears and the results to follow.

In ending, Congrats to all on thier results and once again it was nice meeting all of you guys and I am looking forward to meeting you guys again.

The power is really addictive. I thought my car was reasonably quick until I slapped in the 272's. Now the thing is just amazing.

Looks like everyone had lots of fun. Let's see the dyno charts when you guys get them. I am really excited about the Vishnu dyno day coming up here to Portland on the 27th.

The XEDE makes a solenoid tick like crazy when on boost only.

I have just arrived at my house after going out with Shiv, MP5 (David) and my girlfriend Charlotte. All I have to say is that we had a great time and it was very nice hanging out with MP5 and Shiv in a cool environment outside of the car tuning world. We ended up going to my Cheer's here in Dallas, a bar known as Mick's, and we had a great time. I had to call Shiv as I was heading home to tell him that at 160 MPH the car was still accelerating like a freight train......but I must be lying again.... . Anyway, it was great meeting everyone, Shiv and MP5 are going to swing by Alamo tomorrow to pick up some copies of the dyno curves so they should be up soon. Do not worry, you guys WILL be impressed, especially seeing as how Alamo's dyno was reading a bit low. To those who wonder how we know, this was established by others whose baseline was lower then what they had seen on other dynojets while the basic curve looked the same. In other words, a carbon copy of the established curve, just at lower numbers. Shiv gave us some kick-*** smmooooth and powerful numbers, I was VERY impressed to say the least!!

If you guys thought that standing around a dyno shop all day sucking fumes was fun, you really should have come out to MSR, now that was fun! I have a couple of friends who actually prefer racing in the rain, dry/wet I'm good either way.
The first session was slightly wet, after that the track was bone dry, then the sun came out in the afternoon. It was a great track day and we pretty much had the place to ourselves.

I understand that sucking fumes until 2AM kind of knocked out Shiv and Dave, but the rest of you guys?
Whiterexman was the only one out of the entire group who showed up. You boys missed the real fun, oh well maybe next time. To own an EVO and not track it (road course), it just ain't right. Driving at or near the EVO's limit on public roads is just plain stupid and irresponsible. You have a fast car and think you know how to drive it? Please, save it for the track.

Getting off the soap box now.

If there is enough interest we can organize an EVO focus day at the ranch, (it's like race driving 101). A good amount classroom and track time, cost = $90, and you need at least 15-20 people.

Hehe, and for those who are mistaken that an SRT4 doesn't handle.. Do you think you can handle 25 mins of nothing but a bone stock SRT4's tailights walking away? If not, come out and prove it! Either way it's all good fun...

For those who are intimidated or scared or whatever else, you really should not be. It should be the other way around.. You should be scared and worried on the streets. On the track you get the equivalent of love making with your car for extended periods without interruption.. That slippery first session was a hoot. Who'd have thought a front wheel drive at extreme angles was catchable.. What angle do you have to come at to get some people out to where their rides belong??

And for those who didn't make it out.. you missed out on some of the best steaks, sausage and burgers afterwards form one of the nicest Evo owners around. Thanks Pete!

Pretty sure if you read the first couple of pages of this thread, you will see I was trying to ask everyone where to meet, because I didn't know where MSR was...

Mister, I swear I asked you like 3 times...

Doh. I must have missed it. My bad. I really feel bad now then. It was too much fun to have missed out on.. I had to plug a tire on the side of road on the way out while stuck for half and hour becuase of a train in Crowley and it wsa still so worth it. We'll have to organize and all get out there soon a few times..

Here's a map for future reference.. and some pics from the trip.. SOmetime this week I'll have some digital video in a more compact format. 8GB of MPEG2 probably is a bit big..

I would love to go out there and run, but I have never been on a track before and I thought that only the experienced were allowed to be on the track Sunday. Anyway, if you guys do get a chance to put together some sort of learning day to get started then I would like to do it. I am ok with confidence in my driving (while I do not think that I am the next Sterling Moss), but I know that I will need help with finding the correct line to take and learning braking points. Hey Eric, do you use the brakes much in the Evo to set the front end for a turn? I have never really felt the need to, but then again maybe I am not pushing it hard enough! If you guys get something set up then please let us know, prefferably with at least two weeks in advance so that I can get off of my weekend job.

Great.. Now that everyone has gobs of power, it's time to use it! As for the brackets the slocus brackets are three times thicker than those in the SRT4, but the SRT4 ones held up, which really surprised me. Though the SRT4s a bit smaller inside and for my near 7 foot frame it was a bit cramped for me. Didn't have time to put the beefier ones in the SRT4.. repairing tires and all.. heh.

Some like the thicker ones in the slocus would work well in an Evo for a quick clip in and out harness.. Psi, let me know We could throw 2 pair in your car and then you could clip in harnesses whenever you want.

Anyone here from Peter, did he make it back to Houston without any hassles?

Hi Corey,

Got back to Houston around 8:30pm last night. Thanks!!!! (The drive took longer than I expected since the traffice was a bit heavy.)

It was a fun day at MSR even though I only ran one "lost/wondering" wet session. But it was a hella of fun going out with Eric.

I wanna thank Eric for arranging the MSR day and I hope to be back there again soon.

At least from the video footage you looked pretty good! I'll get that up some time this week. Sucks that I ran out of tape on the first tape about 20 mins from the end of the session. I got about the first 15 mins of it though. Corey = Kory BTW, heh. It was nice meeting you and hope to see you out there again as well!

Shiv- I think the literal translation of your name is: “Rips through code like a ninja sword slices through butter.” I have never encountered such incredible ECU manipulation in my entire life! The fact that you took the time to make **all** of our maps turn out absolutely perfect is a huge testimony to why your company is peerless in this industry to me. The pride in your work and your technical obsession to attain a nirvana of power and safety were very obvious in the results we all received! Most of all, I loved watching you make run after run of clean, repeatable power. Just being able to run the dyno software a few feet from where all this was going on was alone worth the twenty hours of driving to Dallas and back!

Tony/YEVOVIII- You are more than welcome to my map, bro! You’ll need a reflash for sure, because as soon as the boost comes on and hits 22psi in the middle, you’d boost cut without it. I’m so sorry the whole time ordeal was a little weird. The first couple of cars surprised all of us and they took a bit longer than expected. It was super busy, but we thought you were coming back after dinner. All and all, Shiv was on that dyno for 14 hours before we finally left the shop! We were all quite tired at the end of the day to say the least.

Vincent- Thanks for buttoning up the end of my Walbro install. I needed to get back to the dyno, and it was very helpful. I appreciate it!

Sanantone- LeWayne… NOT Armando! You are Rick James, bish! Thanks for being easy-going and having a great sense of humor about the whole messed up name thing. I had lots of fun hanging out with you.

JoeyCoates- The original workhorse! I’m so thankful for all your tireless help, bro! You strapped every car on the dyno and stayed long into the night helping and working your butt off, even though your car was already done. All the power your car made from changing that Dynoflash ECU to even the default XEDE 1+ map was mind boggling. Custom tuned, it was even better! I’m still jealous of your sexy Weightless White car, sucker!

Cooter/The WRX man- Thanks so much for strapping the back of all the cars… especially our pesky Evos! Your continued assistance in that was very helpful in making the day flow more smoothly.

Thanks very much also to Alamo for letting us use your equipment and your patience with us being up there until the wee hours of the morning.

David/MP5- I miss you on this forum already. Your organization and work made this whole dyno day possible. The fact that you kept checking with everyone to make sure they had all the necessary tools and lending your own aid continually was felt by all of us! You’re a heck of a guy and an awesome asset to this forum. I’m very glad to call you my friend.

My catless Stage 1 car put down 300.1whp and 280.9wtq when Shiv finished with it. He was able to extract nearly 25whp in spots from 6500-7500rpm- way up high in the rpm band where it counts the most. The area under the curve was greatly improved and I can sure as heck feel it when driving the car now, as it pulls like a futhermucker to fuel cut!! Shiv took me out for a quick run and some rain after he tuned the car. I was laughing my head off and just had an awesome time while he flogged the throttle and slid the Evo around the streets of Arlington! Best fun evAr. Vishnu > all.
