Hi guys,
Thanks for the suggestions. The remote LED/shift-light will be quite easy to implement. The flat shifting feature is also do-able but will take a bit of time to do well and safely.

I did some testing today with the close loop fuel control feature, which I believe is a first for any piggy-back engine control system. Basically, I've created a new table which intercepts the front 02 sensor and maps it as a function of engine load and RPM. Then, I played around with mapping it, forcing the factory closed loop feedback system to "zero in" on the new desired A/F target. This allows for a richer, more stable idle (esp. those with cams, upgrade intake manifolds, aggressive headwork, etc,.) as well as a leaner cruise for better fuel economy. Another thing I'm fiddling around with right now is smoothening out the transition from low load to moderate load, something that was always a little lumpy with the stock car as it switch from closed to open loop. Pretty neat stuff.

Another thing I'm working on is applying this function to the rear o2 sensor to supress a CEL for catalyst inefficiency. It can actually be done in the harness which would be a nice treat for those who really want to run cat-less.

As for datalogging, here's a portion of one of the datalogs I took today while revving the car in neutral. Check out the sampling rate :

Very impressive. I wish some of the data loggers I had used in the past at work would have done those short time intervals.

I'm surprised no one noticed the titles in one of the log columns. Calculated torque

Can or will all of the data be able to be viewed in realtime or must it be logged, then reviewed?

I am more and more convinced that I bought one bad-*** computer setup. Not that I needed convincing anyway, but this is somm pretty cool ****. Of course if I understood half of it it would be even cooler..........

Maybe we need a Shiv's Xede users 101 for those idiot Xede owners like myself out there who do not even have a clue as to the capabilities of the system. It seems like more and more cool stuff is being added, I just do not know what a lot of it does and how it will help by doing what it is doing. Keep up the R&D though, we'll figure it out!

Will XFlash tuner have any of these capabilities?

JC,
Thank god for those mean, labor-expoiting Englishmen three hundred years ago who invented the modern market system, complete with the practice of "division of labor." With it, Shiv can be the master of performance engineering, while I can become an expert on "special education manifestation determinations." I have no need to understand all the stuff Shiv is up to. I'll just use it when it is available.

Then, I played around with mapping it, forcing the factory closed loop feedback system to "zero in" on the new desired A/F target. Shiv, great stuff, however one issue with leaning out the cruise is that you will put the catalyst to 'sleep'. Meaning that the cat needs those little rich/lean swings around stoich that it gets when in closed loop. The swings (or 'cross counts') let the catalyst catalyze effectively. That also means that the CEL for catalyst inefficiency will also occur even with a cat, if the lean cruise is active.

I'm not sure what this (prolonged lean / no cross counts) does to catalyst life, I'm thinking in terms of the loading/plugging effect that happens when the cat sees the alternate situation of prolonged rich / no cross counts.

Anyway, something to think about.

If you lean out the mixture in closed loop, the ECU (what is really in control) will just compensate by making the mixture richer. Up to 12.5%. After 12.5%, you can mess with it, but the transition from closed loop to open loop and vice-versa will be rather harsh.

The EVO ECU has an authority range of 25% so trying to "force" a certain a/f ratio by manipulating MAF is going to result in huge hesitations when going from closed to open loop. This is why we revised the software/firmware of the XEDE to intercept the o2 sensor signal before it goes into the XEDE. We can then bump the raw voltage up or down (as we do with MAF, MAP, etc,.) and force the factory computer to "zero in" on a new AFR without it knowing any better. We can even keep short term correction close to zero by accompanying the o2 offset by a complementary MAF offset. The nice thing about this method is that ALL of the factory temp, baro, correction, cold start, hot start, etc,. compensations are still in effect and drivability remains perfect.

That also means that the CEL for catalyst inefficiency will also occur even with a cat, if the lean cruise is active.
If we dictate the value of the front o2 sensor, we can dictate the value of the rear o2 sensor and ensure that there is the appropriate voltage delta between them-- thus keeping the cat inefficiency CEL from ever coming on-- cat or no cat.

Neat huh?
