Regrettably yes.

The only problems we had prior to the firmware was the idle, etc.

Everything was fantastic on Saturday and Monday.

Diane first encountered the problem yesterday. I drove the beast last evening and to work today. Forgive me for saying but it is almost a bit dangerous.

The motor isn't just missing it is completely cutting out under moderate to heavy acceleration. Plus no boost over .8bars. On the positive side it idles GREAT;-)

Sorry Shiv.

Best Regards,
JS

John,
Cutting out under accel is odd. Do you know how to use XMAP? If so, could you go to "Features" menu and then select "Special..."

Then just make sure that the box on the lower left side (it says "Use log MAF Scaling") is UNchecked. If it is checked, you will experience the cut out at higher boost due to the MAF signal being maxed out. Please let me know what you find as I'm not certain that what you are describing is the same no power-on issue that a few others have reported.

I'm looking into this right now and have already relayed the issues to the hardware guys. I don't think this is a firmware issue since a few with both the old and new firmware have reported this problem. Could you guys try this and see what the results are.

John-- just emailed you.

The status light on mine was a flashing orange after car only boosted to 10 or so PSI...I made a point of not turning the car off and checking the status light on the xede..
I too would like to get to the bottom of this, although it really is not a big problem as this happens very rarely

Yes, I can interface.

Not a problem.

I will also perform the grey connector suggestion.

I will do this tonight.

Thanks so much.

Also, before you unplug and plug the connector just check to see if the low boost problem is still there. And if so, is the LED off or flashing orange like Andrew mentioned?

Thanks Shiv,

I tried doing this already - disconnecting and reconnecting all plugs. But, I'll try it again as soon as I get the chance. The problem seems to be intermittent. Yesterday (Tuesday) I could not replicate the condition - everythng worked great. Today it happened once and the XEDE would not power-up (I tried cycling the key several times) until I left the key in the "acc" position for about 20 seconds. When I got to the office and shut down the car, I cycled the key from "off" to "acc" to "on" several times and could not replicate the condition. Weird!

I'll let you what happens after I try unplugging the connectors.

Thanks again.

OK Shiv,

I just tried unpluggin and replugging the connectors. BTW, the plugs are a REALLY tight fit on my unit. The problem is still persistent. The XEDE would not power-up unless I left the key in the "acc" position for about 20 seconds. It's weird. I don't know what is so magical about that number. I tried leaving it in the "acc" position for less time and the XEDE will not power-up. I actually have to time it on my watch.

Did you get a chance to confirm the firmware loaded is 1.7.14?

Shiv,

When this low boost situation occurs, for me the LED is usually off, blank, no light. Only one time did I have a flashing orange light. I've been riding around with the glove box off to check the status of the light every time I start the car. Earlier tonight, I went to get some food. When I left home, the car fired right up, green light, everthing was fine - boost was 20 psi. I was in the store about 15 minutes. I got back in the car, started it up, and forgot to check the status of the light. On the way home, I pressed the accelerator, 10 psi - MOTHER F%@#$R! I looked at the status light - totally blank. I pulled over on a side street and cycled the key several times - nothing. The light was totally blank. I tried my trick of leaving the key in the "acc" position for 20 seconds (timed it on my watch). The car fired up with the green light - boost was back to 20 psi.

Less than 20 seconds does not seem to work. I've tried 10 seconds and 15 seconds. Very strange. Also, it seems to happen much more frequently when the car is warm (recently driven). I rarely have a problem if the car is cold (in the morning or anytime the car sits for an extended period). I tried disconnecting and reconnecting both plugs for the XEDE again (twice today) - no change in the condition. Do you think a faulty harness is likely the cause?

When this first happened, my initial instinct was to rip off the electrical tape on the harness and check the solders. I decided against that. I'd rather you guys handle it. I don't want to risk damaging the harness. BTW, I'm sorry this seems to be happening all at once. I own and operate a business also. When it rains, it pours.

Thanks for your time.

Shiv:

Last evening when I left work I started the EVO and just drove home. Everything was excellent. The EVO was a joy.

I didn't touch anything. I didn't toggle the MAF dialogue box, I didn't touch the grey cable connection. Nothing.

This morning, when I started the car, it began to cut out again and not make full boost.

I pulled over about a mile or so from my house and toggled the ignition and drove off. The car still was cutting out. So I pulled over again and toggled the ignition. This time when I drove off I was making full boost and the EVO was pulling like a train. No cutting out.

It ran flawlessly the rest of the way to work.

Go figure.

OH, I failed to mention one thing I did. Since I work at Los Alamos National Laboratory I remembered reading a technical paper regarding hardware configuration. One of the things mentioned was: "when troubleshooting a system, if all else fails, just hit the box with a hard object". So I wacked the Xede once. It worked fine after that. (just kidding!)

Poltergeists.

Shiv: There has got to be a signal problem between the Xede and the ECU. It might very well be anolog (cable).

jsotican,

When did you purchase your XEDE? Was it relatively recent? I've only had my XEDE installed for a few weeks. It seems like the people who are experiencing this problem are newer XEDE users. There must be a problem with either the latest batch of XEDEs or the harnesses. I don't understand why when I leave the key in the "acc" position for at least 20 seconds everything works fine????

my $.02

Let me start by saying I am NOT an expert. Shiv IS. I have read the threads up to not and I have experienced the same problem one time 12lbs of boost max. I didn’t get to do too much testing because I drove it home low boost and turned it off. I restarted normal – 0 time in the acc position. Just key in and crank (like always). I was back to full boost. I will check my firmware version and let you guys know.

Things I would check…. (Especially EVO-Bandit)

When having to put the key in the acc position for extended time I would look for a voltage on the ground. Putting the key in and engaging the cars electrical system may be charging the car and correcting back to normal electrical flow. I have had problems similar with motorcycle electrical systems with after-market chips. I would really look at sub-woofers and capacitors that may not be grounded correctly or power wire for them off the battery that may have been vibrating and skinned the wire just enough to put power on the chassis.

My final bit of useless info-
The chips and resistors just modify the voltage. The Xede doesn’t generate voltage is just takes what it is given and massages it putting out better levels to increase performance. I have seen that the culprit in 99% of the times that I have seen problems like this are “bad voltage/ground in = bad voltage/ground out. A +12VDC lead is relative. You need a ground back to the souse to use it. A +12VDC lead with a +12VDC ground and the Xede will work like a broken toaster (nothing).

What is the starting voltage and/or current requrirement for the XEDE? Doesnt the ECU harness supply power to the XEDE? Maybe the harness does not have the correct start-up voltage for the XEDE in some cases.

EVO-BANDIT: I got my Xede in November last year. Shiv did a ECU reflash in December along with a tweak of the Xede on the dyno. Shiv also did a firmware upgrade just this past Saturday in Colorado.

Cajun Power: Good catch regarding the voltage stepping. But is it a harness issue (resistance) or a ground issue? I'm stumped

Shiv??

Best regards guys.

We will get the bottom of this.

But, DAMN I do love the EVO!
