Brand New Chicago Dyno Day thread!
Thanks to all who made this happen, shiv and erioshi especially.
Ludi......I just noticed on your graph that the humidity was specified at 19%!
It was most certainly NOT 19%. try over 70%. I wonder how much that error plays on the SAE correction factor. You mentioned that the dyno seemed to be reading a lot lower than the one in CO.
IIRC, the Stage 0+ cars (turbo-back, Xede, tuned) were putting down ~260HP. Are these readings comparable to other, similarly tuned cars on a AWD dynojet?
I don't mind my graph being put up. Mine was the last car there, the BBY one. Last name is Hernandez.

FWIW, I think the reason dyno was "reading low", because they were using an SAE correction factor of 1.03 ... so basically what we were seeing were uncorrected numbers. So if I go back to my Colorado dyno sheets and compare uncorrected vs Chicago uncorrected, then I went from 248 to 286 whp. This is actually more than I was hoping to gain, so I'm pretty stoked. I basically picked up almost 40whp by adding 272 cams, lower altitude and 93 Octane

I'll post your final run mhgsx. If you want all your runs, PM me your e-mail address, and I'll send them to you.

Damn i mised the GT!!!! my wife is going to be pissed she loves that car!!
I have to give a HUGE thanks to everyone at the dyno day!!!!!
Erioshi, thanks for all the organizing and putting up with Porsche's bs.
Shiv thanks to you also for putting up with the bs and also for all your efforts on tuning my car. Even with the bum fuel pump i can't believe how much power you tuned out of my car!! Your tuning was worth 22hp and 11ft/lbs. Amazing!!! and this was all ontop of the baseline subzero map which had already given me great gains!!
Oh and on the way home I stopped by AMS to pick up a walbro fuel pump. I will update all once i get around to installing it.
Oh and I also purchased the AEM uego wideband air fuel guage to verify my mixture after i install the pump. it was expensive but will be well worth it in the future. and will help me make sure that my pump was the problem. I will update all with the results.
I can't wait to get out and feel the new tune. I had to stay underboost the whole way home it was killing me!!!
Again thanks to all especially erioshi and shiv!!!! as well as to all the other guys i met. it was fun meeting you all.

This will be more of the same but it's well earned...
Thanks to Shiv for being a true professional! Getting cars tuned, working around the Porsche dealers BS to make customers happy, and turning out great results! I think it's safe to say that everyone left very, very pleased with their cars.
Thanks to Eroshi as for communicating the last-minute switch to us attendees. I think your clarity helped a lot of people deal with the situation and move on to enjoy the day and the opportunity to get a Vishnu tune!
It was so great to meet everyone there! I spent the most time talking with Stockfornow, Ludikraut, and Erioshi...but even those I spoke with briefly were very cool. We have to have more events like this in the Midwest!
I love my Evo! I baselined at 253hp and 26something tq with a stock car except for Vishnu's dump-back. After Shiv's XFlash I saw 275hp and 286 tq! The car is stronger everywhere and the power delivery is smooth with a nice pull all the way to redline-I couldn't be happier! Fuel economy is much improved as well.
Being surrounded by Porsches all day was something I could get used to
The black GT2 and the Carerra GT were amazing. The GT sounded like an Indy car! I've never heard anything like it!
Thanks again to everyone-enjoy your newfound performance!

Ludi.....
Looking closer at your dyno pull, I notice that you're tuned leaner than mine. My AFR's from 4500 rpm on up are right at 11.0:1, with 5800-6800 being around 10.5:1.
Yours looks like it is tuned around 11.5:1.
Kind of odd, since I've got the added protection of that AMS intercooler. Maybe I'll have to pick up that wide-band you got and tune the xede a bit leaner.

I also noticed that you're getting a LOT more torque around 3500 rpm. I'm really curious as to why there is such a big difference between our cars during the intial spoolup. (read: why is my car not making that much torque ... waaaaahhh!!
)l8r)
I'm running the stock air box w/ a K&N panel filter. But I'm using a Cusco hardpipe in place of the OEM accordian style inlet hose.
I'm interested in seeing the others put up their dyno sheets. I'd like to compare A/F ratios to theirs as well.
I can only come up with 2 possible reasons for my torque hit vs yours. 1) I'm running a MBC, so my turbo might be spooling faster than yours. 2) Shiv mentioned about how Al loves running really high timing, so perhaps that's were my spoolup is coming from.
Since it looks like this particular DynoJet was posting low numbers, I've been searching other dyno days to get some sort of possible comparisons. Seems in Shiv's other dyno days, he really spends a lot of time w/ customers' cars. We, unfortunately, weren't able to get that much quality time w/ him due to Porsche Exchange's attitude.
Shiv, any chance of cutting us a break for future tuning? I wouldn't mind driving down to GA and getting all those runs on Dyno4mance's shop. It looked like those guys had a great time, as well as a lot of tuning time.
Ludi.....I can scan my last dyno run, but I don't know how to post it up. Can you pm the directions on how to do this? Also, if you wouldn't mind sending me a copy of my other runs. I'm pretty sure Shiv tried leaning out one of the runs to around 11.5:1 and it really started to break up bad up top. Again, since he's tuning on top of my Dynoflash, it's possible I just can't run any leaner due to the timing Al put in.

So the question is why does my Evo with a the Vishnu standard dumpback exhaust system and a Xede only make 258 WHP and 260 ft-lb?
These number not only sound low in comparison to other cars tested the same day on the same dyno, but they also are low in comparison to other results posted in the past!
What could be holding it back?

Shiv:
My SES light came on the day after the DynoDay. The code reads as the P0300 misfire code. Before this, I've never had the code come up before. I then erased the code this morning and checked it upon return from work. It came up again, but did not trigger the light (1 fault).
I'm trying to track down the cause of this. Before the event, I was running the cams straight up. For the event I ran them -3 in/ -1.5 ex. That's what you tuned on.
So either the misfire is being made by the addition of the Xede, or the cam settings or the BP gas I put in (have always used Shell gas before). I've reset the cams to -1 in / 0 ex. and will see if the code comes up again.
Any thoughts as to why it's coming on? When you reset my Xede for the baseline run, did you also download the newest firmware? Do you think the cam settings might be the reason?
Basically, I guess I'm just going to have to make some changes one by one to see which is causing the misfire.
I tried running -2/-2 like is suggested, but the car idled like crap. With the -1/0 setting, it seems to idle a bit better, but the lope seems more pronounced than when I used to not run cam gears (straight up). When the light first came on (i'm guessing after the second misfire, I was slowly backing up the car into a parking stall. Right now, I'm assuming that the misfire is happening at near idle rpms. Which seems the opposite of what others w/ the chronic misfire is seeing(mid to high rpms, backing off throttle).

mhgsx: I didn't realize that you had an MBC ... I think that explains much of the difference (along with you IC
). I will do some research on the Cusco hardpipe. I've just ruled out Buschur's intake, so maybe Cusco will do the trick for me (as far as eliminating my intake hose popping off the throttle body). I'll send you all your dyno files tomorrow...
freedom: dunno what to tell ya. All I can see when I compare the dyno charts (you and lithe) is that your car is running slightly richer AFR. The curves' shapes are almost identical (pretty amazing). I'd ping lithe to see what kind of cat and filter he has. Other than that I'd have to say car-to-car variance. I remember when I dyno'd my stock evo in CO, it was the strongest stock Evo they had seen on their dyno by something like 5whp over the next closest. Shiv has also stated how Evos on his dyno have varied by something like +/- 5%

What is the correction factor between the two?
