You will need a boost gauge...No MBC or fuel pump needed on stage 1

As far as install price our shop, charges right at $300 for a stage 1( this excludes the boost gauge) but this will vary depending on what shop you go to

I thought that MBC was nessecary to hold the psi at 19.5 until redline ?? Without, won't it taper off ?

Nope, the xede takes care of that for you.

dman,
If you are anywhere in Dyno4mance's neighborhood, $300 is a great price! I paid $200 just for my cam gears and the shop didn't even do it right the first time (that was overpriced though). You don't need a MBC, Vishnu has control of boost with the Xede. You will love it!

Not to steal a thread or anything, but are the cam gears hard to install....to me is doesn;t seem like it would be. Installation on stage 1 seems like it would be simple...the exhaust basically bolts on...the exede has a wiring harness.....i don;t know much about the cam gears though

Nothing is hard, but time is time. The Xede is close to plug and play but also requires some very basic wiring. A good mechanic would also somehow velcro or otherwise attach the Xede next to the ECU. Then you have to take the stock air box out and remove the restrictor pill. That took me longer than the piggy back unit itself. Remember, pulling the car into the service bay, lifting it, unpackaging boxes, lowering it, taking apart the stock exhaust so that the customer can transport it home, clean up, and test driving it to make sure it is running right are things we don't think about. I think a shop could legitimately charge 45 minutes for Xede, one hour, 30 minutes for the exhaust, and an hour and 30 minutes for the cam gears. Don't get me wrong, they probably can do it faster than that, but they could honestly charge it.

what is involved in installing the cam gears? Sorry..once again not trying to steal the thread..but isn;t it just a center bolt that comes off? Is there a notch that the gear lines up on so you basically just swap the gear and torque the bolt back down....sorry haven;t messed with cam gears before. Just on a side note....is it pretty complicated to swap out CAMS? Thanks

KillaS,
I think you are right that it is pretty easy to do. But, since I've been around here (about a year) I've seen thread after thread from people who have either done it wrong or who think they did it wrong. One of my best Evo buddies just did his two weeks ago and when he was trying to loosen the main bolt for his second cam gear he had a major problem: apparently, Mitsu likes to overtorque many of its bolts. He had to crank on the bolt so hard that he turned his whole engine over, completely throwing off his cam and crank angles. It took him hours more labor to take off the valve cover and loosen his cam up to be able to fix it. Also, you always here about people who had no problem putting them in but when finished, they freak out because they are not sure if they installed them one tooth off... It may be easy, but you can ruin your motor if you do them wrong. Finally, you do need a special timing belt tensioning tool to do the job efficiently.

The cam gears are proving to be a bit harder than people anticipate.....it is very easy to damage the tensioner with the Mitsu special tool....be very careful when attempting this to screw the tool in VERY SLOWLY to release tension off the belt

Does that $300 include dyno time? j/k. Thats a pretty good price. I wish more shops in my area would have pricing as reasonable as yours.
