ECU remember anything?

Well. This may sound a bit odd, but if you install the Xede onto the stock unflashed ecu, will the ecu know that it has been tampered with? Basically I was thinking of putting one on my stock EVO just for a little extra pep and if something goes wrong, pulling it back out before taking it in for warranty work. If the ecu can tell its been tampered with, then obviously this won't work. Thoughts?

Hiya-- There may indeed be some sort of internal logging capabilities of the factory ECUs. I do know that Subarus are equipped with such a black box system which records max rpm, coolant, boost, etc,. With the XEDE, there won't be anything especially incriminating since MAF (boost) is attenuated in the mapping and rev limits are left stock (without XEDEFlash, of course). But I'm just guessing here...

Aaah.. thanks.. thats what I needed to know.. basically that its not known.. lol... I'll probably just look for an extra ecu to run the xede on then... I don't want to lose the warranty over my one and only mod.. lol...

Good luck with that extra ECU. I believe the immoblizer unit thats reads off the key is located in the ECU. I could be wrong, but Im pretty sure the factory key and the factory ECU need to be matched up.

Im sure theres a way to reset this, but I have no idea where you would find that info. Maybe some else could chim in on that.

The ECU has a unique number in it. When the immobilizer is "matched" to the ECU what you are doing is matching up the keys with the ECU's code and storing the resulting hash codes in the immobizer unit.

Someone who was creative with a flashing tool could compare two otherwise stock ECU's to determine the difference(s).

Also be aware that the ECU has a backup battery in it to support a memory. My take on comments made in the past month is that the memory is used as a "black box" to record maximum operating conditions.

Agreed 100%. I also bet if you cracked open the ECU and unplugged the battery to clear the memory they would still void your warantee for lack of logging.

One of the posts in the popular thread about Mitsubishi's recent actions states that an empty logging memory was used to restrict the warrantee.

I would'nt worry about it MayhemSi. If something happens to your car I'm sure mitsu would find a way of voiding your warantee anyway.
Im not convinced an Xede alone would be detectable anyway once unplugged. As long as they didnt see any 7800k RPM runs that you would get with an Xflash. I think everything would look normal after the unit was unplugged.
