It is obvious that you are looking for information, but in the same token, I'm trying to figure out who you are based on the information contained in your first post. I don't have a problem with George personally, but I since you asked the same question and used the exact same gears as example, I caught wind of the connection. I don't think you are George, but was trying to figure out how you're close enough to him to know the conversation. Do you work at the shop or are you just a customer like Mdzuricky?
No, I'm not affiliated with Boost Solutions. I'm asking this question because I've heard and read about this topic. I guess I'm posting in the wrong forum. Trust me I'm not saying anything negative about any Vishnu product. I only thought I could get the most accurate information about the Vishnu gears from the Vishnu forum. Oh well, I guess I'll have to ask elsewhere. Why does any legitimate question about any Vishnu product elicit such terrible defensiveness? I only want to know if HKS, or stock gears are identically marked (in reference to radial positioning) as the Vishnu gears. I don't give a rat's hind end about the rightness or wrongness of this. I just like to know what the scoop is. That's all.

Brother, you lost me on what you are asking. Maybe you should tell us what your plans are for your car. "Radial positioning" now that is a term I have not heard, can you elaborate what your asking.

He's asking if the Vishnu gears are different than the HKS, Tomei, and Jun gears in relation to the location of the dowel and zero mark.

FIAWD, DEL TURBO answered your question, I think. However, to reiterate:

if you're asking "which tooth do I use as the 0 mark", then the answer is NO ... the Vishnu gears ARE different from the HKS gears, since the tooth is offset from the 0 degree markings used to actually adjust the cam gears.

if you're asking "is a -2/-2 setting on the Vishnu gears equivalent to a -2/-2 setting on HKS gears", then the answer is YES... both sets of cam gears will deliver the same results at the same settings (as long as they are properly aligned)

I went through this debate as well when I (Mac Autosport, actually) installed the Vishnu gears on my car.

Hey FIAWD,
I ruined a perfectly good shiht on the john typing my thoughtful explanation for you this morning. It isn't freakin' rocket science. They bolt on and your car goes zoom better.

The scoop is what tooth is the zero and has nothing to do with the "0" on the scale. On our gears the "0" on the scale is not TDC the red mark is.

FYI the dowel pins on the HKS, Tomei, Jun all line up like the factory so there is no need to re-adjust the timing belt on the cam gear itself.

NOIZE= ease up bro

I'm glad I stumbled across this post.....I'm thinking about cams and cam gears, but am kinda leaning towards cam gears only now. I'm mechanically inclined, but I'm not very familar with setting TDC and aligning the cams correctly....might have to pay someone to do this one....dammit i've done everything else! haha

1. take out stock intake cam gear
2. take the v's gear and adj to zero
3. line up the v's gear on top of the stock gear, make sure that the dowel pin are lined up
4. transfer the stock tdc mark to the v's gear
5. put in v's gear
6. repeat for exhaust
