Vishnu Cam Gears, stock cams, what setting?

I have a set of Vishnu cam gears I bought used off of my friend. We are installing them tonight and yes, I've read the numerous threads on this topic but they were somewhat confusing. However, I want to make absolutely certain I have this right.

First, am I correct in that Vishnu recommends -5, -5 for stock cams?

If so, according to the marks on these gears, what should I set them to?

Again, I'm using stock cams and this is an otherwise bone-stock '05 GSR.

Thanks all,
Joe

Looks like you have it set right for stock cams in the photo. Just remember to set TDC to the tooth with the red dot in this photo.

Thanks!

Noodle,

Thanks for the confirmation. That is exactly how we did it. Just test drove the car and everything seems great. I appreciate your help.

i have 2 questions i hope someone can answer for me:
if you have a full exhaust, MBC, intake, reflash (stage 1) but a stock cam should you get cam gears?
1 - will there be a gain and how much?
2 - are the gears worth it (maybe a slight hp gain but hurts daily driving a little?)

Try calling vishnu, but as I recall, Shiv was saying that the cam gears with stock cams provide 90% of the power that going to full aftermarket cams(hks)/cam gear combo provides.

does this 90% include a down low TQ increase and up top HP increase? or a loss in TQ and gain in HP? maybe the other way around? Does it hurt driveability?

Maybe im asking this wrong, i plan on getting an 05 and go with full exhaust, intake, MBC, ECU reflash, and a Greddy Type-S. Should i get cam gears if these are my only mods?

Take a look at that thread. As far as I can tell, you basically just gain alot more up top power. But seriously, I would call Vishnu in an hour and ask them in person.

Just take a look at Vishnu's site. They have a dyno graph.

http://www.vishnutuning.com/parts_evo.htm

According to the chart, there is basically no (significant) power loss anywhere - just more midrange and more top end. My driving impressions agree.

Gears on stock cams with proper tuning wakes things up nicely everywhere in the powerband.

Thanks for posting that. I'm assuming that's -5/-5 and everything else stock?

Cam gears at -5,-5. TB exhaust and Xede/Xflash. Everything else is stock. The magic is in the tuning
