Engine Staying at 2000 RPM During Idle

My car has started acting funny about three weeks ago. I was running it hard on the freeway and when I exited on an offramp, the RPM's stayed at 2000 and would not go down. I shut the car down and after about thirty minutes everything was back to normal.

On my way to work last night, I ran it hard and the same problem with the RPM occured. I let it idle for a couple of minutes and reved the engine to try and get it back to normal, however, the RPM still stayed at 2000. This morning, I started her back up and everything seemed normal until my EVO warmed up. The RPM just rose to the 2000 RPM mark and stayed that way at every stop until I came home and shut it down. This started happening to me after I ran the car hard at track event I participated in. Has anyone experienced this problem? I will be changing my oil this morning to see if that helps.

Thanks, Gnulooks

Have you checked the air in the tires?

Anyone else old enough to remember this reference to Cheech and Chong?

Angel,
I bled my brakes last night. Not sure if all those bubbles in/near the front calipers have been there for a long time or just since our track day. You should do the same....

I have never heard of that idle problem. I'd start by checking your Xede harness very carefully for any loose wires or connectors. But I'll bet it is somehow related to that code you were pulling...

When I reset my ECU it does that. And then it learns and idels fine. Might want to disconnect the Neg on the battery hit the brake for about 1min and then reconnect the Neg. and let the ECU relearn. Also check your plugs on the ECU make sure they are all the way in.

I just finished putting in some fresh Redline oil w/a Mobil 1 filter. The car finally came down a bit, but it is still at about 1100 RPM's, which is a little higher than normal (0900 RPM).

Eric, I will disconnect the ECU and see what happens. Your help is always appreciated. Also, I did check the exede and everything looks fine. I need to find a better way to get that thing to stick behind the glove box because it just seems to always rattle and come loose. I am using a strip of velcro tape but it's not working.

Tom, I do want to bleed my brakes. You should have called me to give you a hand. So what fluid did you use?

Zip tie that sucker to the heater core box. There is a few places you can loop it around in there and I promise it will not rattle. For get velcor that crap sucks.

Eric, resetting the ECU worked and it cleared my code for the rear 02 sensor. Thanks again. Hey, do you have any pictures of how you zip tied that sucker on there. Now I have put some wheel time to see if the RPM problem comes back .

I thank the Turbo Gods for EVO M and all the help its members provide.

Just zip-tie it to the plastic where the glove box pivots - need a big one though

Second this. I disconnected my battery to install some shift cable bushings and I definitely had a lazy coastdown-to-idle for a while (couple of weeks worth of driving 45-60 minutes per day).
