Water sprayer on AMS intercooler

The stock water spray device works as good or better on my new AMS intercooler.

And it would be better if the Xede had control of the water sprayers.

Also, zero drop in max boost. I'm sure the Vishnu intercooler will be awesome, but I couldn't wait.

I'm still getting boost drop and couldn't really pick up a lot of power. Mind you, this is with me at the controls at the XEDE being super conservative with a 1+ map. I made a little up top, but that's it.

It takes a lot longer to pressurize this intercooler, so my car gets rich a lot earlier. This is evident in the midrange torque. I picked up a little more area up top, but am leaving the rest to Shiv.

Also, we haven't put the titanium 16G on yet, so I got it to be a little better with the 264s and called it a day.

My water sprayers aren't functioning right now, and I need to finish troubleshooting that.

Smog, did you have to trim your undertray? What method did you use if so?

Is this what to expect if an IC upgrade is used with the stock turbo?

I only have one point of reference: How my car responded to the AMS intercooler. This would definitely be a better question for Vishnu or AMS.

Seth,
I left my undertray off because I have a few more mods to do next week. However, I did notice that it looked like a tight fit to put it back on. I'll probably leave mine off for a few more weeks so as to make it easier to tinker. Why don't we both go to the AMS forum and ask about the undertray?

One more thing, notice that I said no change in max boost. I would agree with you that it takes longer to pressurize the IC but just barely. Did you get the lower IC piping? I didn't - yet.

Hm, I guess the question is... if I plan on keeping the stock turbo, do I need to upgrade the IC?

In my experiences so far, I'd say no.

Yeah, the problem now is that I just got into a fender bender, and I need a new IC. The OE is $700, so I'm thinking I might as well get an aftermarket one... but I want one that's plug and play, no modifications necessary (tray and bumper intact). So far, the Perrin is the only one that fits that description.

I am not to sure about that the Evo's around here that are in the 11's with stock turbo all have intercooler upgrades. All other with same mod's are still mid to low 12's but it is summer time who knows.

If you are referring to the Boost Solution guys, they are running the stock turbo out of its efficency zone at like 28psi. At that boost it is producing really hot air and having a good intercooler helps big time. I have been watching really closely at what intercoolers those guys recommend since they have been proving what works and what doesn't. From what I have read, they like the Greddy R version and the AMS. Just my 0.02.
