Header for your EVO VIII

Vivid Racing is process of production on a EVO VIII header. The header will bolt on same as factory. It will be designed to increase turbo spool by 500 RPM's and will be stainless steel. Our target retail price is $500 - $700.

The Question is......

Would you be interested!

Most headers including the JIC we have now, are between $900-$3000!!!

So if you are interested in a header, please write your reasons here, how you would design it, what your price target would be, and any additional info!

Thanks

Yes I would be interested. I am not really interested in nice and shiny. I am interested in a thermal coating, I believe Al got his done by some guys in Conn. called Gforce. It looks excellent. I also read in Turbo that Garrett has a couple of new twin scroll ball bearing turbos coming out, don't know how true this is. Anyway, stainless, thick flanges, large tubes, twin scroll if the Garrett thing turns out to be true, optional thermal coating, and the $500-$700 range sounds good to me.

YelloEVO: Large tubes won't necessarily do anything for you, in fact it will probably hurt performance. You want to keep the runners small so that the exhaust velocity is maximized. Also, the larger the tubing, the more the exhaust gas is allowed to expand. Expansion dissipates energy, and you want the exhaust gas to have as much energy as possible when it makes it to the turbo.

I think it'd probably be best to make the manifold stay twin-scroll, have equal length runners, be thermal coated. And make sure it has some anti-reversion protection. This may mean not port-matching it or having some sort of anti-reversion cone near the engine-side flange.

EDIT: After reading this maybe equal length isn't such a necessary thing. I guess if you add length to make the runners equal length, that's the same thing as adding diameter to the tubing (increasing volume of the runner). The main goal is to get the exhaust gas to the turbine as fast as possible.

The headers do make a difference and we will have dyno charts showing it...

This engine and car has been around for years all over the world. I can show you countless cars from Japan with huge horsepower, dyno charts, road course times and more...

the prob with the JIC headers is they have the EVO7 only and are not available to US customers. We can order the 7 like we have on our car from Japan...

Check back this week as we will add a ton of JDM headers online for sale until we finish ours.

for 500 - 700 dollars is a good price. provided they are thermal coated. But here is another twist. create an entire exhaust system to include the header. I would like to have a Ti exhaust like what is sold over seas. ( To include a cat delete Ti pipe. )

I am all for a 500 rpm increase in spool up. Either with header or with displacement.

Make this a staged upgrade and I think it would sell well.

Thumbs up n00b here... w/ input!

I figure since this is my first post i may as well add something right off the bat. Any chance at putting a bung for EGT probe? or also adding a flange for an external wastegate for future upgrade, maybe a block off plate till that time comes. but definitely w/o a doubt coat the beast.

I think the carb legal is good, but it only affects Californians, most states dont have that problem...

The EGT is a good idea, but is simple to weld a bung or drill and tap, as there are many different types of sensors.

FYI:

We have 3 JIC headers like the Project EVO INSTOCK for shipping. We have also received 2 HKS replica headers from Taiwan.

First come first serve.

HKS replica is $650. Pictures coming soon.
JIC is $720.

If you want to do some dyno test with the HKS then we will refund you $100 once you complete the project. Call Dan for more info!

something like this ($575 list) with coating for under $600 sounds like a great deal...
