I believe increased timing helps spool as well so with lower egts you can increase timing. I am not sure though.

With increased timing, increased EGTs.

Yea thats kind of what I meant, since the meth lowers egts, you can raise the timing and and thus create faster spool, but I really don't think meth spools up the car faster than denatured alcohol though.

Also in nc alky is like 10bucks a gallon (thats cheapest i can find it) and meth is $2.50 a gallon at local gocart track, This might be why he is going meth, also Meth makes more power right?
I heard of No reports of stock bolt failures running alcohol inj pressures.

The reason everyone runs methanol is not due to economics, but HP

The only place we can get meth here is at Lowes home and garden in the 10buck cans in paint isle. The meth we get is VP fuel from local go cart place. I cant find alky any other places close by.

If I am not mistaking Mr Al Friedman mentioned me that he orders 40 gallons at the time in a barrel delivered to his house for dirt cheap.

As far is my $7.00 for alcohol, I am paying about average 40-50% less than Joe smosh, I ordered my supplies from Ace hardware in 5 gallon cans and with additional military discount. Normal price is $11.99 plus tax for a gallon for a normal bystander customer which comes close to $14.

Good on ya for being in the military, I am Airforce my self. What are you serving in?

I think it may be the opposite. It reduces cylinder pressure and EGT temps. EGT temps contribute to spoolup. One would assume hotter EGT would increase spoolup, not lower.

if your spray point is low enough...i'm pretty sure it will help spool time.

cooler air = more air molecules than hot air = more air to cylinders = more air to turbo = faster spool time

...also timing.

There is got to be a downside in using meth. Would a highflow cat or the injectors be damaged in the long run. I was interested in running it in my IX.

No downsides other than it being corrosive, if you run denatured alcohol you won't have this problem. Injectors would not be affected and your cat would be affected just the same as normal gas would.

Anyone know where to source denatured alcohol in Maryland? and how much / gallon?
I'm also interested in going this route.
Except I will be running on 35R shortly after.

I bought up all my local home depot had a couple months ago...

You really dont need that much for a daily driver if you are not hard on it..

I have been on the same gallon for 3 months....pretty good..

I couldnt find anybody local that sold meth..

Guys,

Thanks for the information. I didn't realize I would get this much response. I think I'm going to go with the following:

- Alky Kit- running meth
- Boost to 26/27 (Waiting on recommendation from Al, could be less or more)
- Maybe upgrade injectors (Is this needed to run higher boost - I assume so...)
- 10.5 Hotside
- Custom Tune

Hoping to break 300awhp on BR MD?

Thanks guys,
Mike

No need for injectors since you will be leaning out the car on alky. Sounds like you are going to have a fun daily driver, maybe add some 272s and ARP headsutds in there though.

I've got the headstuds but only have 264's cams. I must of missed listing the headstuds.

Would 272's make a world of difference? I really enjoy the 264's because I'm more of a low end speed freak. I rarely go over 90 unless I'm passing someone, but I sure love to get to 90 FAST! It's the rougher idle/power worth it?

Thanks again!
