can boost damage alky pump?

I having a problem with pumps not lasting long on my car. Trying to figure out why. I like to mount the pump as close to the injection point as possible. My injection line is usaully less than 10 inches. This keeps prime up time to a minimum after a long drive without boost. The pumps seem to be failing after a long drive. I am thinking the pump is being subjected to boost before it has a chance to fill the line. Weakening the pump diaphram to the point of failure.

Any of you designers seen this problem? Can anyone confirm the pump should not see boost?

Is the physical location of the pump in an area that gets good airflow?

Frequently pump failure is due to overheating and/or insufficient airflow..

I had a similar problem with a fuel pump on my Malibu, whenever I'd get stuck in traffic or slow moving traffic, the pump would overheat and shut down.. Eventually it failed.

this is similar to your situation, especially if the pump is running for some duration of time.

Shurflo pumps have built-in checkvalves, so I don't see how this could ever be an issue. What is actually failed when the pump is pulled apart?

I am grabbing straws here cause I dont know what to try next. Its not a heat related issue. All the components are mounted in the right front fender. Plenty of airflow. Nearly cool to the touch after an hours drive. The pumps are lasting literally 1-2 gallons. The last pump was just installed two weeks ago. I used meth from a sealed container. Thought it might be contamination issue as I was getting meth from united speed world. Apparently they use one transfer pump for all the fuels they sell so some trace race fuel may be present. The sytem is setup such that a red/green led is used to tell when the sytem is armed. The red led turns on when the pump recieves current. Then the led turns green when the headpressure is at 30-40psi. Using the switch on the pump. When the pump is new the system arms at 3 psi. By 5 psi the led will turn green. Early failure is detected when the led goes green by 12-14psi. Then a short while after it wont prime at all. I dont know axactly what is failing as I usually just drop the pump back off to alkycontrol. Very frustrated here. Ready to ditch methonal setup for something else.

Some pumps REQUIRE lubrication mixed in the meth.. You should check the manufacturer..

Check the ground. Bad ground can short the pump. Check crimps.

The kit I used requires pump to be lower than reservoir, and reservoir lower than nozzle, and uses internal check valve to prevent reverse flow.

So the pump motor is not burned up?

Just in case you didn't know, Sureflo uses Viton seals and has a "poor" as chemical compatibility for dilute and concentrated methanol solutions. I asked the Snow staff regarding this (Viton in their pumps) and they said they use a different grade of Viton more methanol useful (researched and sure enough they were right). So far so good, but maybe I should run a standby pump for emergency

Hmm...sounds very strange for sure. I highly doubt it could be heat related, because you aren't using it like a fuel pump since it never stays on for more than 30 seconds at a time (unless you are using it for road racing, etc).

So the pump will just stop pumping after a while? No leaks, nothing?

I might ask if he chose the ETP-S Viton for the Snow pump, but I don't like being a PIA customer
