Is one better than the other?
Methanol:
Also known as Methyl alcohol, carbinol, colonial spirit, columbian spirit, methylol, methyl hydrate, wood alcohol, wood naphtha, wood spirit, methyl hydroxide, pyroxylic spirit,
Physical data:
Appearance: colourless liquid with a characteristic odour
Melting point: -98 C
Boiling point: 64.7 C
Vapour density: 1.1
Vapour pressure: 97.7 mm at 20 C
Specific gravity: 0.791
Flash point: 11 C
Explosion limits: 6% - 36 %
Autoignition temperature: 464 C
Toxicology:
Toxic by inhalation, ingestion or skin absorption. May be a reproductive hazard. Ingestion may be fatal. Risk of very serious, irreversible damage if swallowed. Exposure may cause eye, kidney, heart and liver damage. Irritant. Narcotic. UK exposure limits: long-term 200 ppm, short term 250 ppm.
Stability:
Stable. May react violently with acids, acid chlorides, acid anhydrides, oxidizing agents, reducing agents and alkali metals. Protect from moisture. Highly flammable
Personal protection:
Safety glasses. Effective ventilation.

Denatured alcohol contains:
82% Ethanol
9% Isopropanol
2% Methanol
1% Methyl Isobutyl Ketone

==========
- Methanol has higher latent heat of evaporation than Ethanol.
- Ethanol has better energy content than Methanol.

Duncan, please post your pictures here in the Water/Alcohol section when you're done with your installation. Also congrats on your Aquamist system purchase, I've had my 2D system for many years of trouble free operation. You won't be disapointed. Joe

Specific heat is the amount of energy required to raise 1 kg of material by one degree K (Kelvin, same as Celsius but with 0 point at absolute zero). Different materials have different specific heats. The energy is measured in kJ or kilojoules:

Air ~ 1 kJ/( kg * deg K)
Gasoline 2.02 kJ/( kg * deg K)
Water 4.18 kJ/( kg * deg K)
Ethanol 2.43 kJ/( kg * deg K)
Methanol 2.51 kJ/( kg * deg K)

The latent heat values of different liquids are shown here:

Gasoline 350 kJ/kg
Water 2256 kJ/kg
Ethanol 904 kJ/kg
Methanol 1109 kJ/kg

Thanks Richard, although a little too scientific for me, maybe a better ? is, which is better to run with the alky kit (Alkohol or Methanol), pros and cons of both.
I have about 10 gallons of denaltured sitting in my garage from my previous kit.

Sorry, I don't really know whicjh is better. I guess, based on the properties. methanol will allow better for cooling and de-n is better for replace fuel.

Too much methanol may over-cool your engine over certain ratios.
