Project X - Water/Meth Install!

Hi Guys,

Righty this will be a work log hopefully :)

Feel free to chime in with ideas/suggestions :)

Proposed Mounting position:

Fabricated bracket:

This is 4mm 5005 aluminium. I could have gone for 3mm or maybe even 2 mm, it doesn't flex at all...

Gauge Mounting/Setup:

Cheers

Any idea of the weight that will be placed on the board?
If you can get a weight figure, and approx G-forces then you can calculate the flex.

If it were me, i'd screw 2-3 thin cuts of particle board ~5cm wide, just under the width of the board onto the rear of it to give it strength.

can you use strips of aluminum in a "cross" shape on the back of your sheet to re-enforce it?

tephra Sep 4, 2009 10:34 PM

weight will be:
possibly 2x 5QT tank - 12kg total
1 pump - 3kg total

So I reckon 15kg total.

Normally driving you would not exceed 1G, however in an accident you might go WAY above that.

Yeah I see what you mean, if you can have something coming up from the bottom that will help brace it :)

I have contacted a local aluminum fabber, i will see what he thinks too!
possibly

Using an trimmed angle iron might work.

ahh yeah...

i was thinking something similar..

even just a thicker brace rather than angle... might see what the guy has lying around...

i was thinking some 7075 grade :D hehe

actually thinking about it:

i think i will try and get the bottom edge bent towards the rear of the car... that should provide the "angle" and add a lot of strength...

Richard has this posted in his hfs-5 q&a post. Here is a link...https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/wa...icial-q-3.html.

yeh but its requires a different setup on the X :)

tephra Sep 7, 2009 07:52 PM

ok guys I need some advice:

USP 6QT = 41 cm high
USP 5QT = 35 cm high
Vertical space in the boot is about 47cm

Concerning refills do you think going the 5QT is best? Obviously I will still need a LONG hose..

Or do you think go for 6QT given that I have to use a hose anyways..

I was going to go for 2 tanks side-by-side anyways, so its either 10QT or 12QT total...

tephra Sep 12, 2009 03:40 AM

I have decided on the 5QT... It will just be easier to deal with when refilling :)

Been talking to Jeff@Howerton about some extra bits'n'bobs to hook up 2 tanks... Should have that soon with some pictures :)

tephra Sep 13, 2009 03:08 AM

lol - I changed my mind to the 6QT... I also ordered a cheap pump to make refilling a LOT easier :)

ok all coming together now :)

BIG thanks to Jon@HBSpeed for collecting everything and shipping to me in Oz :)

It appears that you are racing a lot, what is the average duration of each race? I was trying to estimate how long will a 12 quart supply last.

tephra Sep 13, 2009 03:59 PM

well i probably wont race this car... too expensive :) lol

but if I did its about 10 mins a session...

Richard L Sep 13, 2009 04:15 PM

10 Mins is quite a long race.
