Times at speedworld?

Went to speedworld last night. The evo has been dynoed at 340whp. It only ran a 13.2. I know I need to work on the launch (used to the rear wheel drive), but the second fastest evo there was running 14.3. Is this a slow track or was every evo driver out there sucking. Just wondering.

not a slow track, so just sucking big time would be my guess. what was your trap speed?

I havent gone out there in a LONG time. When I get a clutch I will go out though for sure. I have always found the times to be pretty equal.

I like the track at speedworld better, it seems to be prepped a little better than firebird, plus its usually colder there.

That's what I thought too, but to have every evo driver there (4 or 5) not running the the 13s had me wondering. I had a 2.0? 60ft and 118 mph on the 13.2 and I know I can get that 60ft a lot lower just getting used to launching an awd (that was my first time at a track). Was just questioning because I've seen stock evos run 13.1-13.4 and the other evos where running 14.4 or higher times.

It's pretty amazing how much trouble people have getting this thing down the track in a timely manner. A lot of the stock Evo guys run 14s at Firebird too so it definately isn't the track. With that mph you may have an 11 sec. car when you learn to drive it better. Check out 3000ways' list of times to match up your mph and you will get an idea of what your car is capable of.

Btw, are you still on the stock clutch? Also, where did you dyno, 'cause that mph is very high for only 340whp.

I hate having to say this but I am convenced it is a drivers fault. 340whp is no joke, so the Evo you have should be able to run at least mid 12's with a decent driver.
Speedworld is one of the benchmark tracks in the entire country, perhaps one of the best, the altitude is no so bad and the temp was cold at night in Phoenix.

I would say practice your launches. I went 12.6 in Tucson(3100ft) with 3"tb,flash,cai,mbc and cams on 91oct, I estimated my power to be around 290-300whp MD).

Even if your power was 340WHP on a Dynojet you should be capable of mid to high 12's.

As far is the other guys with the Evos, the same thing applies, bad launch. A bone stock Evo should do at least high 13's in Phoenix(Speedworld or Firebird)

My .2c

Holly Molly.. Wait a minute, I miss that part.. You were trapping 118MPH? Dude, no doubth you should be in the 11's and no doubt you have launching issues.

Your topic started saying 340whp and 13.2 times, then I missed the part were you mentioned the 118mph(we were both typing simultaneously).

There is no more mistery here, your car is very capable of 11's.

t88 Supra, can I please ask you the list of mods? also could you tellus what type of gas did you used for the race?

Thanks in advance..

I saw you out there probably...i was the black evo, i ended up with a crappy et of 14.1 that night. it was my first time on a track so i definitely had some launch problems but i also had taken my friends advice ( definitely a disadvantage) and ran open down pipe, barely any noticeable gain top end and i lost a bunch of low end cuz of the no back pressure. That track is perfect for running, nice and cold which helps, and with awd no hook up problems. once i get a new clutch ill be back out there again and with an exhaust hopefully running mid 13's.

Mine (actually my wife's) was the silver evo with the canards (sp?). It has a downpipe, test pipe, cat back, 264 intake and 272 exhaust cams, DNP exhaust manifold, cam gears, and xede tuned by shiv. I was also running on 91 that night. I'm not doubting I need improvement on the launch, it's A LOT different than launching the supra and that was my first time to the track with it. I also think I need better tires, I was getting a little loose through the first gear.

Wow, you have (or your wife) a pretty strong EVO there. 118mph is no joke especially with your mods. I think a lot of other EVOs could trap a lot higher but they don't launch as bad as you.

Actually a 2.0 60' isn't extremely bad, it doesn't justify a 13.2@118MPH, unless you were f*ckin up your shifting, damn this doesn't add up. Seriously I'm confused by your whole run, can you post the data from your slip?

Is it possible, timing was messed up at the track that day?

No, idea about the timing. I would doubt it though. Shifting was fine, except for the two times I missed 2nd gear. These were the times:

2.085
5.596
8.533 mph (91.848)
11.008
13.214 mph (118.310)

Mathematically looking at this now, the times seem wrong. Seems going at that speed from the 1/8 to the 1/4 there would be less elapsed time. Of coarse, my other three slips show a final mph of around 105 mph. Something in the equation is not right.
