Help - Possible job move to Scottsdale, AZ
Hey guys, Evo owner looking for some advice.
I currently live in the midwest (St Louis) and am contemplating a move to the Scottsdale, AZ area for a job offer. I don't have a lot left in stl to keep me here, so I'm not crying over what I'd leave really besides my stl cardinals baseball!
Anyway, I'm pretty fed up with the cold weather and snow/ice we get 1/2 of the year. Stl get all 4 seasons and I've been looking for work south. Was hoping for some feedback on the overall weather there. I know it gets pretty warmish in the summer, so what's the thoughts? It'll get in the upper 90's in stl, and lotsa humidity pushes the heat index to a 'feels like' temp in the mid 110's fairly often. Dunno if that compares.
Just looking at the boards looks like you guys have more meets and stuff. The midwest is still more domestic...
93 octane there?

The people are incredibly fake and shallow, but you can still meet some pretty cool ones that aren't from here originally. Lot's of blonde chicks with fake **** and A.S.U. is like 70% female if you're into that kinda thing.
91 octane, but a couple of gas stations sell 101 -110 at the pump.
Probably a little more opportunity professionally depending on what you do.
Oh yeah, and you have to switch from being a baseball or football fan to being a basketball fan. We already have your quarterback here so you should feel right at home.

My quaterback... haha, I like that. I was one of the ones booing him off at the end. I liked him, but Warner got too injury proned and untrusted. Don't worry, I've been rooting him on in AZ though!
I couldn't cheer on NBA bball; it's too fake. Baseball is my sport, so that's good to know. I know the Diamondbacks are still 'rebuilding' as ever.
I'm concerned with the price of housing and relocation assistance. That assistance will probably determine what I do. I love the area, just the timing isn't real good (I just bought a new house here in January).
91 octane blows, I'll lose 20hp and need to get retuned probably to be safe...

I just moved back to Georgia from Phoenix. I moved out to Phoneix three years ago and enjoyed it. If my job had not given me another promotion in GA I would still be there.
Housing is expensive in some areas but you can still find some good deals. If you don't mind a little commute to work look around the maricopa area and out in Queens Creek. Even up on the north side you can find some older homes.

AZ was known for a long time as a great place to live because it was so affordable. Those days are long gone. We pay over $3 per gallon. Auto insurance is the highest in the nation. Home prices have soared. Energy & water prices continue to rise every year by 6-7%. And the freeway system sucks.
Aside from all that, AZ is a great place to live. Scottsdale is a ritzy city. I moved here in Nov of 04 and considered Scottsdale myself, but ended up in Mesa because there are no property taxes and because my wife's family lives here.
As far as sports? I'm a die hard baseball fan myself. I also like the NFL. Being the baseball fan you are, you'll really like spring training. We get a lot of teams training here and watching the games is really cool.
My brother just moved down here from St. Louis and I came to work with him for awhile from Indianapolis but we grew up right out StL. Ever spent time at Jack Patricks at like 7th and Olive? There are lots of bars like that around here with poker and whatnot. There is a huge temperature difference, some people like dry hot and others like humid hot, might want to figure out which you are more acclimated to before you make the leap. Oh, and the drive down sucks because en route through Texas they only have 90 oct if you're lucky, just some things to consider. There is good stuff about the town though, if you like St. Louis you will probably find you like it down here too, weather permitting.

I actually got word the company in AZ was going to fly me out for an interview, but the timeframe my job shopping ran out and I signed a contract locally. Maybe in 6 months...
a house in scottsdale is a minimum of 400k unless you live in the hood. a 1500sq ft ranch style house built in 1970 with two car garage is about 5 to 600,000. i moved here from wisconsin and it was a rude awakening. thats why i live in gilbert now.
