Question for you cali guys....
Hey guys,
Im taking a roadtrip into Cali and Im leaving in about a week.
I have a TBE with a cat-delete, Should I expect to get crap from the cops there? I'd like to avoid a multi-thousand dollar ticket if possible
But seriously, My car is registered in IL, do I stand any chance of being harrassed by the cops? My cat-delete is obvious if you just look under the car.
Should I re-install my stock exhaust? I don't want to have to worry about pesky coppers, and I don't think they will give me much crap but I know how bad the CA cops are.
ALSO on a side note
I'll be in Sandiego, Pismo Beach/San Luis Obispo, Sequoia Nat'l park, Mojave reserve. Can you guys suggest some cool stuff to do?
I remember a few years back I did rented some ATV's with my bro around pismo. There was like 30 sq. miles of dunes to ride on and it was a blast, I plan on going there but the whole trip is up in the air besides doing that.
Help a brother out!
Thanks,
Justin

If you're gonna be in Cali, I suggest have the cat handy, cops here are ****.....well it also depends on the locations I guess. But here in Sacramento, Rancho Cordova, Elk Grove and Davis they are bastards!! They'll pull you even if you drive a Geo Metro.
Justin,
Since your car has IL plates, they really can't ticket you for a fine. The most they can do is probably give you a "fix-it" ticket (but don't quote me on that). If you want to avoid the hassle of getting pulled over often, then i'd suggest that you put the CAT back on - that might be one item where they can really get ya for $. I used to live in Cali and got the hell out b/c of their crazy-*** and stupid laws here.
Case in point: when we first got the IX MR, we vinyled the logo on both sides of the car (see pic here: http://www.mynesperformance.com/shop/). While traveling to LA for a race event, we got pulled over five times. The car is literally a freaking cop magnet- they would make u-turns from the other side of the streets so they can pace us and pull us over for nothing. Keep in mind, the car was 100% STOCK. The most common excuse was the lack of a front plate, but we never got a ticket or anything.
I was talking to another shop here Cali and some of the cops have ride-along car "experts." Once they pull you over, they pop you hood to see what aftermarket stuff you have... even a drop in filter has to be approved by their state agency in order to meet some clean air standards... a TBE would garner local evo owners a fat a$$ ticket with fines. With that being said, i'm not sure what authority they have over a out-of-state registration/insurace. It's best to check the Cali DMV for more info.
The above is just my experience and what i have heard thru others, pls don't base your decision on it 100%
Cali used to be a fun place... for me, getting out of cali is fun enough
cheers.

I agree with MWBMW, make sure your CAT is on, and you have all your Manuals for the Evo, even for the HID's (if you have it) you can get pulled. If the car is lowered, you'll get pulled. If you have a wing in the back, you can get pulled.
Make sure your documentation is there for all that.

If you're looking for a fun drive the mojave preserve is definately a good one. I would recommend checking out the El Mirage dry lake while you're out here if you dont mind getting dirty its frikkin awesome.
Truthfully after living in TX all my life, CA doesnt really have that many cops which is a good thing. San Diego cops are quiting left and right and they are very understaffed and underpaid. No more than 70 cops are on shift right now covering 2million people I saw on the news last night. Out of state plates they will leave you alone due to all the military here. You DO NOT have to pop your hood in CA, they have to ask you to and you have the right to say no and they will not tow you over a cat or air filter. There is no 'Pollution Gistapo' out here to be afraid of. Im getting out of this overrated state as well, to many rules and people now. 93 octane, better food and sexier girls await back in TX!
As far as cool roads to go on...do the infamous '74' in San Juan Capistrano out side of Laguna Niguel to Lake Elsinore so you can chew on some sportbikes tails and eat at the roadhouse cafe overlooking the lake. Or, goto mount Laguna towards El Centro off hwy 8 40 miles East of San Diego towards the desert...sick driving for the ole Evo.

you should meet up with us here on the central coast. there are several EVOs here, they are just hiding...there is also a nice bunch of guys in a club called CENTRAL COASTS MOST WANTED. they have some nice cars. they are kewl too. older people with the "non ricer" attitudes. check them out here www.ccmw.com look up there cars. if your here on a friday, i live a few minutes away from San Luis Obispo. let us know.
um mwbmw. no.... i'm in the military (not cali resident) and my car is registered in oklahoma.. i live in california.. car is completely legal in oklahoma, but i got a ticket for my exhaust being too loud... i have a buschur tbe; hfc with magnaflow.. the cop gave me a fix it ticket and when i went to the referee he told me that before they can validate my sound check i have to make it pass smog.. 102 db was my lowest and 95 is the limit.. so basically i'm screwed and have to completely de tune the car... I'm pretty sure i won't be happy with the evo anymore after it's detuned..i can't wait to leave this hell hole of a stage..
If you live in Ca...you are a cali resident. Ok I am also in the military and love to beat the system. If you are licensed in Ill and your plates are from there too then they cant really do anything to you. My license and plates are Tenn. I had 3% tint..slammed on coilovers..exhaust intake ...headers...and as soon as I gave him my Tenn license...all the questions stopped...If you are licensed and plated in another state and make the mistake of admitting you live in Ca then thats your fault. Them giving you a ticket would be like the border patrol getting you for a bank robbery....it aint there part of the world...
