The bay area is an hour and a half away from where I live in Stockton. Street racing is really big there, so I'm sure there are similar rules there. The reason the cops are starting to crack down more, at least in Stockton, is because there was a kid killed here recently in a racing related accident. This is the 3rd in the last couple years. The racing also attracts gangs sometimes. there's also been a couple shootings. no injuries in those though. Pulling over cars just 'cause they "look" modded is discriminating against the legal cars that are raced legally at tracks. It's pure B.S.

I just moved from portland, or to va. In the seattle area they pull ppl over for having aftermarket exhaust claiming that it's louder than the ordinance specifies. Doesn't matter if your driving home or going to work. Also, in portland and milwaukee they are trying to pass an ordinance that will allow the police to impound your car if your in a parking lot or some similar kind of area thats in close proximity to streetracing. Doesn't matter even if they don't see you racing just being close to the races is reason enough for them.

Did anyone ever see that nwstreetracing.com posted an portland police plan to infiltrate the racing scene? It had all of the details in the plan and what are the appropriate actions for the police to take, make sure that you don't arrest our undercover officer was one of the appropriate actions not to take.

Thats BS. How is that any different than being at a store when someone shoplifts something and arresting everyone in the store that just happend to be there at the same time?

I don't think that law will last long........

More or less what it is coming down to police want to cut down on illegal street racing because it has led to accidents and deaths in the past. (Its not their fault its their job) But what really gets me steamed, me and my friends all drive imports except my one friend that drives a riviera supered. Whenever we decide to cruise at least one of us gets hastled, no ticket but just the normal, "What are you doing here, any drugs, weapons, bull****" Except if a F*#king fleet of mustangs and camaros drive by with loud *** exhaust and speeding like hell, they don't seem to mind. I'm really kinda of pissed at "The Fast And The Furious" for bringing all this negative attention to the scene, cause me and my friends have been modding since before it came and will still be doing it after its been forgotten. And because of that cops think that every kid with an import is pushing Turbo and Nos and look to F&*king race and carrying a gun and all sorts of ****. It's a new breed of stereo type based on the make and model of your car, and its absolute ****.

Wow, that is complete BS. They are taking this to an extreme. I can understand pulling over modded cars if they are speeding, or if they are in a big fat group at night heading over to vacant streets, but pulling over cars cause they looked modded is just them having nothing else better to do. Anyone heard of this in the Las Vegas Area? I got a bunch of mods I have planned for this month, and none of them includes a ticket.

The article gave an example of what the police are doing. Itried finding the actual article but it wasn't on the papers web site and I don't have a scanner so here goes. A guy in Stockton got pulled over for having a bent license plate. He had already been pulled over for this so he expected a $10 fix-it ticket; he got that plus the cop sent him to Modesto (30 minutes south of stockton) to the CHP headquarters to have his car inspected. he ended up getting a $145 ticket for having a modified emissions system. I can just see a cop pulling me over for no front license plate and trying to send me all the way to modesto to have my car looked at. Even though everything I've done to the car is legal.

I have a better fix for them.. Take those ugly *** things off!!!

I agree with you that it's BS. But, the ppl on the committes are going to listen to the parents who lost a kid to racing, neighborhoods who have to deal with streetracing and, the police and they will claim that impounding ppl's car is one step in eradicating streetracing. The committees are not going to listen to the streetracers, thats if any show up to present their side of the story.

You know why this can happen? And still continue to happen?

Because most of us do not care for politics, they can do whatever they want. In order to confront this, you have to actively bring this to the frontline. Like "Driving while Black/Brown" thing. They got national coverage because people were active in complaining to the news media.

So unless some of us unite and complain about it to the news media, then your freedom of expression will be taken away.

hey dipper, do you go to every one of your city council meetings? I know I don't. Between work/school/girlfriend, I have no time to voice my opinion. None of the aforementioned laws/ordinances were brought to vote publicly. We really DON'T have a say in what they're doing.
