I'm leaving now to go up there. Topanga isn't really worth the gas for me though. I'm just not a fan anymore. I'm gonna drive stunt tonight, I'll run through it come back and continue on my normal route down from piuma...we'll see how it works out. Oh mark, why was stunt so bad at night? I guess I'll find out eh?

Goodluck out there.

How about getting a camera mount for some in-car video action.
Not all of us get to tear up the canyons everyday. It will be great to have something to watch and remind us of what we are all missing.

Thanks in advance.

I swear, taking those roads at night in the fog and mist at anything close to resembling something sort of kinda fast gives me the *******... Be friggin CAREful, ESPECIALLY on stunt with that nasty left hand sweeper that just drops out from under you.

Question

Speaking of which. Because visibility sucks at night, do you guys do canyon runs with your high beams on? Are the Evo highs any good?

Just wondering because whenever I do runs with my brother (formula red S2000 driver), we always have our highs on and his highs really aren't all the great. Hmmm, if only I had the new Viper's HID racecar highs.

How good are the headlights at lighting up the road ahead of you? How would you rate them on a scale of 1-5? Five being the best.

I would say 4 on the canon.....the HID is bright as hell, but the distance is so short....maybe just too dark

yeah the lights are good except for the beam getting cut off so sharply. for any serious night time driving, I'd get some real driving light pods for the front bumper.

On the night time Santiago runs we've done we've used our brights mainly, they seem to work perfect.

Back. Well, I did'nt have the "magic" today. Maybe because I took my roommate with me. You know those days where you just can't seem to string the whole run together, i.e. some sections good, but you miss a couple turns and it takes a bit to regroup and run good again? Kinda like at the track, except the canyons are less forgiving becasue there is no loop. It was still good, but I've felt better. Stunt sucks the cack IMO. I ran it downhill from Piuma to mullholland then back uphill again. It's too straight, I like sweepers, but I prefer tighter turns, and yes the cresting left hand sweeper is f@cking vicious!!! Completely unloaded suspension while turning...OFF CAMBER...whoever engineered that road needs to be shot or kissed I can't decide which. I can see why so many bikes go down there. And that is deffinately a turn you don't want to lose it on. I dunno, I just don't really like the rest of it. I like the middle of piuma, the section of mullholland between canal and kanan, and of course all of latigo! Getting the brakes done on Friday, and new tires soon. I might not run it again 'til our meet because the tires just don't feel that great in their present state. Hopefully I'll have the new rubber by then. Oh and I use highs the whole time, the lows are good, but don't light up enough of the road, and the highs are actually very good on the EVO. Some rally pods would be nice right about now hehe.

The evo has some of the best high beams i've ever seen on a car. It's like a police searchlight in your face. Our routine for night-time canyon runs is that the person in front uses the high beams (switching off when cars come the other direction) and everyone else in back has their low beams on with fog lamps. Its like a train and it works great. I've had the evo behind me turn on his high beams and I felt like someone shined a laser in my eye. That's why only the evo in front uses the beams hehe.
