Where can I go in Los Angeles?
Where can I go in Los Angeles?
I'm really new to all this and don't know much about tuning/modding other than what I've read on these forums the past few days. I'm looking for a comprehensive package for my evo x (bolt ons and a tune) to make my car much faster than my friends' 08 corvette c6's. Any places in Southern Cali offer something like this?
shops in Cali:
Tuning Technologies
MFQ
RRE
Harmon Motive [Located in L.A. but rep. isnt all that great! (more of a suby shop)]
HB Speed (new shop)
EDO Perf. (new shop)
GST up north If I were gonna pay some1 to tune my car, again, it would be Bryan
Works up north
My .02 If you dont mind driving up north, I would hit up Bryan @ GST for his tuning services... you can get your parts from almost any vendor on here. Not sure if you are aware of SOCALEVO.NET Its another forum, but based for us in SoCal. GL Feel free to hit me up w/ any Q's.

I went to HBSpeed they got me some good numbers for minor bolt ons and tune!

If it's a Z06, you won't be 'much' faster unless you go with some insane setup that hasn't really been created yet. The AMS cast manifold with a GT35 would probably be what you need, if they decided to do that setup. I think they currently have a GT30 size turbo on it...
mfq is closest to you (burbank)
and rre is the most reputable (down in santa fe springs)
just for reference (although im sure youve seen some numbers around here)
i base lined at around 250whp on 91
added ur o2/dp, rally cat, cat back (just resonators), ets upper and lower ic pipe, and aem intake and did 300whp (no tune)
with that, and a tune on 91, id expect to put down 325-330whp
adding the 4" intercooler and a tune on 91 i hope to be closer to the 350 mark.

EDO are good people but they can't tune Evo X's yet.
Jon @ HBSpeed is top quality and friendly -- the man owns an Evo X himself what more can I say?
RoadRace Engineering has good rep, friendly staff as well.

Wow thanks guys for all the info, and no, my friends don't have z06's. One has an 07 corvette ls3 with z51 auto-manual, and another has 08 corvette ls3 without z51 and auto-manual again. I thought about getting a vette myself since I was very disappointed with the stock evo's performance, but after seeing some of the tuned/modded evo's on here i changed my mind. I figured save 20k on the car and use 5k of it to embarrass my friends
RRE!!!!
They will take care of you in every way possible. Honest guys who try to make an honest living. One of the oldest shops around and probably has worked on the most evos and mitsubishi's in all of socal.

I had a slightly larger turbo/cams/intercooler etc put on my car a little over two years ago (IX) and two tunes (100 octane map and 91 octane map). Since then the car has been converted to a full time track car, cage etc. and I beat on it a couple times a month at the local tracks.
There are multiple reasons I like tuning tech. First alfred is a good tuner. He and his crew do an excellent job building race cars and normal cars. They have a fully stocked facility with an awd dyno. Their customer service is excellent. When I first talked to alfred, he sat me down and asked me what my goals were, which was impressive. When I asked on the status of my car during the installs/tunes they were good at getting back to me and if there were any hiccups (I have a used turbo kit that was missing pieces) they were up front about it.
Also, when you go to their facility its organized and clean.
Since I got into cars (about three years ago) I've seen all kinds of dishonest stuff. Seems as though car people are the worst business people. When I got my cage built/installed (not at tuning tech or any of the builders listed above) it took months longer than expected, went over budget and while I was at the builders facility, disgruntled customers would come in screaming. The guy had 1/2 built cars and hulks every which way. When I went to pick the car up it had rained (my car was outside without front windows and it looked like a cat had nested in the drivers side floor boards. The cage itself ended up being pretty nice.
The thing that put me off with some tuners when I was doing my initial shopping was that because I am a nobody I was treated as such. Weeks to return phone calls or ignored altogether.
btw, I receive no incentive to write this from TT. No sponsorship or breaks or anything. In fact, since my initial installs/tunes I haven't even seen them. They just treated me right and here I am, a few years later and its paying them dividends.
There will be a lot of evos up at Speedventures event at buttonwillow this month on the 24th/25th that have been tuned by various tuners. I'll be up there.

For parts ordering and suspension/exhaust installations, I highly recommend E Autosports in El Monte. They offer great pricing and reliable installs at a good price.
For tuning, Road Race Engineering has an amazing reputation. I've also heard great things about HB Speed as well.
Hope that helps
