Amsoil is the better of the two..and costs more.

Mobil 1 is no longer a true synthetic since they dropped there rating from a GL-4 to a GL-3

Dont use that stuff. Its not good. It breaks down extremely fast. If your going to pay that much you might as well buy Amsoil. Or for that matter, if your a cheapskate, buy Shell Rotella T. Its at walmart for about 16 bucks. Its an awesome oil (possibly better than mobil 1)

Royal purple is the worst stuff to use. Just PM OilDoc on this forum and he'll provide you with the test data for all major brands of oil. He is an Amsoil representative, but the testing is performed by third party laboratories.

I believe RP actually thins out over time. Amsoil actually thickens. This is just off the top of my head, so I could be wrong and I'm too lazy to search right now.

Basically, I was this close to purchasing some RP and did some research and found out that I'd rather be using Amsoil.

I have heard this several places, but have yet to see it.. It does not even indicate this on their website. What am i missing? I thought the GL numbers were refering to gear lube ratings.. GF refers to motor oil. The real question is what is the base stock that mobil 1 uses... is it a group 3 or a group 4. I am totally confused by this one.

yes Amsoil costs more, but the benefit of using it is extended oil changes which in the long run will actually cost you less.

also for the one asking about the 0w/30

Yea...

I will admit that oil doc is EXTREMELY knowledgeable and amsoil is a great product. But he is a bit to much of a salesman for me (no offense doc ). He is passionate and I have great respect for that!

I visited the same sites, thats why i started to do analysis on my own oil. Royal purple sucks. Dont buy an oil because it has a pretty bottle!

here is the 0/30 http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/sso.aspx
Oil doc says good things about the SSO 0/30 I haven't tried it, but hear good things from other people that run it in their Evo's.

I use the dominator 10/30 on my street Evo http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/rd30.aspx

I think both are good, although I haven't tried the 0/30 yet, I may try it on the next oil change.

yes the dominator is made for the track yet can be used for the street as well. You can go 17.5k miles on the dominator with an amsoil ea oil filter. You can change it earlier then that, I would go at least 5k miles though. If you are unsure, send your oil out for testing.
