on the lighter side, autocrossing only costs $20-35 per race, but I still rarely get any takers from this forum.

brian, is there a beginners division or a behind the wheel instructor type of thing? i definately would love to go but i dont feel confident enough to go into a autox comp. just to run over a bunch of cones and get disqualified or humilate myself...im sure alot of other people would like to take a instructors course or atleast enter in a non-experienced class.

i've never done any official AutoX events i've always went to a parking lot with some friends who have experience and they setup a cone course but even then i suck

The autocrosses I go to have a novice category, which groups beginners together and seperate from the regular competition, and allows them to have an instructor in their vehicle. As long as I am already done with my race for the day, I can be your instructor if you like, otherwise there are usually other experienced drivers willing to help out. Next event is Nov 2nd if anyone is interested. Check my autocross thread for more details.

Also, there are autocross schools twice a year (plus one or two more that are for women only), which is a little more expensive ($50-100) but a great way to learn the basic and intermediate skills needed to post fast times.

Like you were saying at the meet its all the driver and not all the car. Hit me up with some info. I know I cant make the Nov 2nd race though

Hey guys... dont worry about being n00bs to autocrossing. The first time I went with Brian I didnt even have an instructor, I just drove up to the line and gave it my best shot. My first run I was like 9 seconds or so behind first place for my class. After 2 more runs I managed to cut that down to 4 seconds I think. That WHOLE day i only knocked down ONE cone...

Hey Vince, I've seen a ford escort beat the crap out of Camaroes, Corvettes, and even Porsches (sp?). It's not about how fast the car is, it's about how good the driver can handle it.

no autocross day! I mean, it'd be fun, but don't make it part of the monthly meet, it'd be way expensive... plus tearing up our tires.....

i'm pretty sure brian has an auto-x thread here somewhere which has tons of info. But I think Auto-X and SCLC meets should be kept seperate, as for the next meet speedzone sounds great considering I didn't get to go last time.
