even if it did skip a tooth I don't see how this would cause a vaccum leak. I thought it was pretty common for an evo to be off a little with the belt. And especially around TDC

there was no leak... the timming was WAY OFF and was causing the vaccum problem and making the car stall...

Im a little confused about this as well. The only thing i can think of is that with the timing off it was causing the valves to stay open MUCH longer than needed and allow air out, but not sure exactly. Thats all that I can think of though.

Also does any one have an Evo metal DV or any other DV they were thinking of getting rid of? If so let me know and how much and ill try to pick it up. It'll probably be just after Xmas. Im just tired of the driveability issues with my Forge. Great valve and holds boost like crazy, but not being able to be in boost and partial throttle with out it fluttering sucks.

timing belt off a tooth will jack up the timing of the intake and exhaust valves opening and closing sequence in relation to the crank's rotation.

you should probably put a new timing belt in while you're at it.

+1 to a new belt.

Is the 4g63 an interference motor?

I thought it was. I hope none of the valves are bent...

thats what I was thinking. If its only 1 tooth then you are probably ok but any more than that and I would get worried.

One tooth will not throw things totally out of whack. Like I said, it's very common to crack open the covers and see it off a little. I think this was a thread about this awhile back.

Bad tensioner more than likely.

I believe thats what they are replacing as well.

I know this is no big deal to ya'll that have been living here for a while, but I got my 1st chance to really drive the car in the snow heading up to Rose to do some boarding and it was freaking incredible! Even with just the ASX's i have on the car now i was able to control the car easily doing 30-40 going up to the slopes. Even had a little fun in the lodge parking lot and was able to get it to grip or slide fairly easily and controllably . It just makes me even more impressed with this damn car!

How much is a little? Not on 4g63 motor, every timing marks should line up crank,2 balance shaft especially on the oil pump (that one is off too) 2 camgears set 12 o`clock line up with the timing mark on the valve cover. Yup tensioner is shot leaking fluid.I didn`t recomend him to change the belt due to a low mileage car, belts are still fine.

^I've seen a few torn down 4g motors that were off a little. And these were low miles with good tensioners. They just skipped a tooth. It happens
