I think the best bet would be putting on your stock exhaust and getting it written off

yeah its aggravating having to change something you put on. you could either take the exhaust off and put it stock again till you sign it off then put back on. if you know a friend thats a police officer, i would ask him if he could sign off the ticket.

Wrong! A cat will significantly reduce exhaust noise, I have run both ways everthing else being equal.

yea my friends in CA all run electronic cut outs. They are really strict about emissions and illegal mods out there

sucks but pretty much any N1 style exhaust will attract the officer's attention here in cali. my suggestion would be to get an exhaust thats more "traditional" looking than an N1 if you do not want to deal with the hassle. RRE should have plenty of options for you.

if you get a cat make sure its carb legal. I think CA requires the sticker on replacement cats.

never could understand that - harley bike exhaust are way louder than ours and how come they don't get pulled over for having an exhaust that's ridiculously loud as well

CA sucks for mods. You are not allowed to have any modified exhaust that is over a certain decibel. I think the measure it at a 45 degree angle from the exhaust from a certain distance. I would just slap on the stock equipment, baby the car down to the police station, get it signed off and then reinstall everything.

In regards to electronic cutouts, those are also illegal in good ol CA. They will not pass a visual examination from a smog tech. So you might be able to run them for a while but every two years you will have a problem. The only way to get away with having those is to not get caught..lol

They can't pop your hood without your permission. There is no probable cause like you racing or something to ask that...(From an ex cop)

Have you ever ridden a Harley without a muffler? You will get hasseled just as much. At least that is my experience around here. But the way i see it, loud pipes save lives, so i will pay the ticket. I have been pulled over a couple times but never given a ticket.

quit revvin yor fart cans, and we do get tickets for bs, like the frame being to low to the ground, loud exhaust, handlebars to high and no blinkers when i used my hand signals. Quit whining all of you, if you mod it expect a **** pig to f*** with your life. As for the exhaust, pay his salary for the week or go stock and get it signed off.

From my personal experience, cops have pulled me over for visual appearance more than sound. And usually have the ref stations deal with the decibel level and carb. I had a HKS Carbon Hi-Power on my STi and after only two weeks got pulled over at a stop light. Switched to a stromung twin tip, also painted shealth black, never had problems for 3 years. Sound was just as loud as the HKS.

This is classic example why I can't run a Tomei exhaust in Cali. The fact that I could randomly be pulled over for "modified exhaust". Currently running a Megan dual, painted shealth black with OEM style tips. Never had a problem. And my exhaust is loud. I have had cops in bike and cars and literally parked next to me never given me problems. And my car is hardly stock looking either.

GL to you, man. It's a PITA.

it is about a 190 ticket if you just pay fine and do not get it fixed.

So if you do not have a officer sign it, it will be about 190. If you do get it signed off it is I believe 10 bucks.

If I were writing a fictitious novel it would be nice if the main character knew a cop who could just sign the ticket off putting his name and his badge number verifying the vehicle was returned to stock.
