Any good shop can tell the differences between a 4g63 block and a 4g64 block.

How did you not know it was a 2.4 when you bought it? I would think that would be up high on the list of features.

I am with you on this one, I would think that would be a selling point.

Also I know any good shop could tell, hell I could tell. My questions is how did the owner find out it was a 2.4?

i had no clue i am new to evos. i bought the car from a dealership in oregon then put a TBE and frontmount on it and took it to ENGLISH RACING to have it tuned and things were not looking right on the dyno so they started looking at it and discovered it was a 4g64 and they used a borescope to check the pistons out and they were forged but who ever built the motor did not do adjustable cam gears.so they could not get over 300 whp with out it knocking and once they got the adjustable cam gears on it made 334

Do you have before and after dyno graphs of the adjustable cam gear install?

I am in a similar boat in that - I have a 2.4, and troublesome knock problems, with the stock gears..

One of my friends had a 2.4 built 03 then put it back to stock and left the 2.4 in the car when he traded it to the dealership...so things like this happens. He was from California and moved to Vegas but not sure if this was his car. His was built by RRE (Road Race Engineering)
