Cali folk...

So I've read a couple of threads on this and haven't gotten a straight answer... what is the fine for not having a cat (basically having a turbocat exhaust with no cat)? Is this a fix-a-ticket? Whats up with this?

THANKS!

It is dependant on the officer and the city

You will either receive a state ref ticket as mentioned above or an exhaust ticket.

The exhaust ticket will cost around $200 but is also dependant upon the jurisdiction

The State Ref ticket will cost between $300-$800 depending a on if they allow you to do a non repaired payment. Some jurisdictions will give you the ticket and allow you the choice of two payments. One is fixing the car and going through the state ref. That of course is the lower payment, but will require you to put the car completely back to stock

The higher payment is by not fixing anything on your car and just paying the non repaired fine.

Some jurisdictions will allow this and some will not

This is probably why you haven't seen many straight answers because it is quite variable in this ****hole we call home

Yeah thats what I figured... $2500 just seemed too high.. maybe if you've been caught a bunch of times and had to go to jail (LOL)

My last one was $741 and included the following:

1. Ride Height (Cop was a total douche) (Correctable)
2. Tint (Correctable)
3. Emissions (Correctable)

If I fixed it all and had it inspected/approved by the state ref, it would have been $450. No brainer to just pay the fine at $741

I knew someone who got one for over $2k, but he was a multiple offender and tried to run from the cops so his ticket was not just for emissions. He just paid a lot for being a dumbass

Why is it a no brainer to just pay the $741 fine?

i wouldn't call it a no brainer, but i think i would do the same.

removing tint and springs to bring the car back to stock then to go back to the way it was would cost more than $300 plus the time it would take is not worth it.

I'm sure this is true if you've been caught many times before and with other violations. $2k for just no cat seems alittle out of this world, even in California.
