Malibu Road Rally 07/17/04
For the July 17 SCLC meet, we're hosting a 3 hours road rally in Malibu, similar to those run by ITN. For those who don't know what a road rally is, it's a scavenger hunt in your car. Two people (a driver and a navigator) get a map and a set of instructions and clues, then try to find each location (checkpoint) and reach it at the exact specified time. Score is based on how close you get to being right on time (not early or late).
There will be Cash prizes for the top 3 teams! In order to make sure we have enough photo copies of the instructions and maps, we have to have entried recieved by June 14th. We plan on limiting it to 20 teams.

Chris, please don't call this rally a race. Calling it a race is what can get you in trouble. Mr Bubbler, you seem to need to understand this as well. It is a navigational rally, meaning the entire thing can be completed and won by running at or below the posted speed limits and obeying traffic laws.
The main reason for having it in canyons is because you want to have the checkpoints out of high traffic street since the cars will be driving under 5mph to "creep" to the checkpoint if they are a little ahead of schedule. It's also nice to have the beautiful views of these roads, and of course cruising through Malibu is much more enjoyable than crusing through, say, Compton. Especially if you plan on stopping on the side of the road to record your score
Anyway, Chris, since we've established that it is not a race and that performance doesn't give any specific advantage, your dad's Z is more than welcome.

true, but I am hoping that the participants in this can at least keep a civil appearance on the sections near civilization. As for the other roads, there will be plenty of people having a good time cruising to the beach, motorcycles, etc. Which reminds me, please respect others on the road, but still have a good time! So, is anyone planning on being there? So far I have 0 entries and 3 verbal committments.

Well Brian,
as much as you know I want to do this i have to weigh the costs(time isn't the prob)
1. i have to drive the 4+ hours to get to the start
2. drive the 3 hours of the road rally
3. drive to the place where I know we are gona eat then pay for my food
4. drive the 4+ hours back home
like i said...time isn't the prob...it's the damn 91 being at the cheapest $249
thats a lot of gas
unless someone wants to sponcer a dedicated member for gas??

Troie, we still need a few volunteers to help run the rally. You could ride along in another car (or massage Sabrina to keep her from throwing up), and we will be finishing the event at a house (mine to be exact) so I'll feed you as a thank you for helping. How about that?
