Works Exhale DP Questions

Jamie,

I thinking of getting the works 70mm downpipe since I read that it produces more horsepower than the 75mm version with the stock turbo. One question, the price for the 70mm on your site is $499 while the 75mm is $349. Why the big price difference? Also, it looks like the 70mm DP tapers to 75mm at the cat, is this the case or is it 70mm all the way. I will be keeping the stock cat for now, too worried about CARB/emissions regulations of CA. I'm in the bay area so I would have you guys install it, roughly how long does that take? Thanks! --John

no problem. For others that may be wondering. The 70mm piping isn't nearly as plentiful as the 76mm variety and, therefore, the market charges a lot more for it. Unfortunately, WORKS has to relay some of this cost, but we do discount it as much as possible. Both downpipes are their respective sizes throughout and do not taper anywhere. The flanges for each are capable of mounting to the stock cat or you can pick up our High Flow Cat for even more performance while keeping emissions at bay.

Thanks so much Jamie,

I have a few other technical questions. With the ceramic coating on your DPs is it necessary to thermal wrap the downpipe to protect the oil pan as I have seen on other downpipes. If I were to use the 75mm downpipe with the stock cat is there a big mismatch in ID's? I like the looks of your HFC, just new to California and paranoid about CARB/emissions regulations. I hear you guys have high quality/well engineered products, looking foward to upgrading with them.

Of course I don't recommend this, but after a 20 minute session at Sears I parked the car, came back <5 minutes later, and could comfortably rest my hand on the downpipe!!! That's the 76mm with ceramic coating. Clearly no wrap is needed.

WORKS believes the ceramic coating does a great job at retaining heat and keeping it away from the oil pan, transfer case and other nearby objects. A thermal wrap may offer similar benefits, but is much bulkier. Space is a premium certain areas and the thermal wrap would take away even more while the ceramic coating adds a minimal amount to the size of the pipe while still providing a more than adequate thermal barrier.

The 76mm DP would see a smaller opening when entering the stock cat and we would highly recommend the HFC to see the full benefit of the exhaust. However, WORKS has engineered all of our Exhale components to be fully modular and you can replace any or all pieces at any point without worry of fitment issues.

I have the 70mm DP with the ceramic coating and believe me it is a beautiful piece. It woke the car up great and gives a nasty hiss from the turbo now. It would be the best 500 you will spend.

None. No rubbing at all. Bolts up wonderfully to the Works HFC. I switched from a Helix HFC to the Works HFC. The difference in quality, and fitment was unreal. I cannot say enough for the quality of the Works DP and HFC.

Here is another pic...
