Suggestions on first mod!

2006 IX MR, 2k miles

I cant decide. Part of me wants to go with the P2 to help out my gas mileage, boost taper, etc. The other part of me wants exhaust hehe. I wouldnt mind getting the flash now because I travel alot, so sending my ecu back and forth when I get new parts is no biggie. I basically only get to drive my car on the weekends.

So heres the options for next week's payday, let me know what you think..

Works Axle Back Muffler + Works Drop In Filter (Cant do intermediate pipe yet, unless Jaime can cut me a deal!)

or

Works P2 ECU Flash

Or will take other suggestions...was looking at the ss II suspension package...mmmm....

Have about 800 to spend.

I recommend getting the P2 flash. From what I understand, the IX's benefit very little from an exhaust without tuning. So you really wouldn't see to much from any exhaust work until the ECU is flashed to take advantage of it.

Exactly. See numerous posts everywhere supporting this point.

Flash first, then exhaust. Then brake pads, fluid, and a trackday.

Mind you, once you get the exhaust, you will probably have to get reflashed again... It shouldn't cost you anything as long as you stick with Works parts, but you will have to pull the ECU out again...

Ya thats not a concern, thats why I was leaning towards the flash first. Will be out of town first week of June, so have plenty of downtime to send out the ECU. Then as I add things can just resend it out. Will be going with works TBE, so wont be an issue on reflash.

Thanks for swaying me, think Im gonna go with the P2 and drop in filter for now =)

I would have swayed you the same way The WORKS Brain Flash presents a better "bang for the buck" mod to start off.

Yeah but the works TBE sounds so good =), but you will not feel the power intill you get some type of boost control (thats how it was with my ix). So getting to need a flash too its just what order you want to do it in.

True, it's hard to hold out for the WORKS Exhale sound You could always go ABM with the Brain Flash to start off and add the additional exhaust components later (since they're all modular).

Jaime, can you PM me price for P2 and ABM, or just give you a call?

If you do the exhaust in stages, make sure you put some high-temp anti-seize compound on the threads, or you'll hate yourself...

I had put on a 3" dp/high flow cat/catback exhaust before my flash... noticed more top-end power, it actually felt like 20hp difference... weird thing was that my K&N drop-in filter caused a power loss before the flash- I swapped the factory filter in back and forth with the K&N and sure enough, that was the problem- if the sensors notice too much air flow it can trigger the engine to cut some power... like what happens with a ram-air intake.... wont necessarily happen with an exhaust upgrade, but you may not notice anything til a flash.... you will probably be happier starting with a p2e flash (with boost control thru solenoid), followed by exhaust + filter (accompanied by reflash).
