IX with the following mods

Hey guys,

I am trading in my 2007 STi Ltd. and going back to the Evo IX. Since the IX has the MIVEC setup with different cams and slightly different turbo how would this combination do?

WORK 76mm TBE w/coated downpipe and high flow cat
StealthWORKS muffler
o2 housing
Throttle body
High flow air filter
P2r flash for 93 octane

Do you guys have a flash already built around this combination or would it be an issue? Thank you.

Markeddy,

I've got an Evo IX MR with all that except the o2 housing. They've definitely got a flash for your exact setup --- and it'll purr like a kitten (or should I say, tomcat) when it's done!

You're good to go!

Jamie, I miss you guys. I am just getting things in order for a buyback on my STi and then will be ordering up a bunch of stuff.

Do you guys recommend that I break-in the car first and put say 10,000 miles on it before doing a TR-360 stage upgrade, or have you had cars with 5-10 miles off the showroom floor come in and have the TR-340/TR-360 kits put on them immediately? I know San Rafael is pretty close and deals directly with you guys as a dealer/vendor.

Also, with a 93 octane tune with that setup will I be able to run say 22-23 PSI with or without CAMS?

Curious about the HP/Torque curve on that setup, the one guy was making almost 300whp, but was only seeing 268 ft. lbs. of torque, was this a problem with boost not holding due to not having the WORKS diverter valve?

Thanks as always!

I'm running 23psi on my setup on 91 octane. Actually... It spikes to 23psi, tapers to 20psi, then tapers upwords to 23psi again. I have the P2R flash.
So far I'm not seeing any problems. Hopefully I can get Pete to log it on the dyno and give me a thumbs up.

Mark,

We've done TR-340 packages on cars right off the showroom floor. Some will opt to at least get through the Mitsubishi break-in period (600 miles if my memory serves correctly) before taking the first steps.

San Rafael Mitsubishi is about 20 feet away--we even have some of their cars in our showroom Snorre and his crew have always been great to deal with.

Yes, you could get by with a little more boost on the higher octane fuel.

The torque curve may not peak as high because the boost spike is limited. We can always initiate a larger spike and throw in some extra timing down low to exaggerate the peak in the torque curve, but in the end it's just a number and you aren't sitting at that RPM point for more than a fraction of a second. The shape of the curve is what we're after and don't feel the manipulating the boost nor timing maps warrant the jump in peak output just to play the numbers game. Keep in mind this particular tune is well over a year old and we've done some tweaking here and there with the flash.

The OEM IX valve does relatively well until around mid-20 PSI and then we'll see it start to leak. If you're sticking with a pump gas tune, the stock one should be just fine.

Have there been any long term issues from doing the car right away instead of driving it for a while and then installing the parts on a IX?

Jamie,

Who should I call then to purchase a car from San Rafael Mitsubishi, who is Snorre? Also, I want to deal with someone that knows WORKS so when I go from having PAID for the vehicle to it being sent over to WORKS to get all the parts installed and then it gets shipped properly.

Who is most familiar over there?

Long-term data isn't truly available on the IX just yet The long-term VIII cars don't show much variation between modding early or later. Wear items (such as clutch and brakes) tend to go a little sooner though

Snorre is the owner and (above all) an enthusiast. WORKS has been dealing with him and San Rafael Mitsubishi since our early days.

Honestly, give Oliver a call here at the shop. He's been dealing with a few of these transactions lately and can lead you to the right person to talk to at San Rafael Mitsubishi.

What made you want to get rid of your STi?

It's not an EVO, close but still different. Plus there is a heck of alot less legroom both in the front and back which makes it rather difficult with 2 car seats in the back. I don't like my kids feet butting up against the back of my seat and I get a little bit annoyed after being kicked and my wife complaining about the lack of leg room.

Plus that dang ECU hesitation/throttle tip-in issue that Subaru hasn't resolved with the stock flash is bugging the heck out of me with no resolution in sight.

I see! Fair enough.
