6 Month P2 Review

Well actually I started with the P1 which David installed personally with Pete than the P2 which John and Pete installed.

P1 was great but P2 was a must since it ran richer than the P1 giving some safety room for some mods without a reflash.
P2 alone is definitely an improvement but with an added panel filter, a 3in Down Pipe, and a 2.5 in axel back, it’s amazing.

All from a rolling start since my launching is just burning clutch and for about a block length since I need time to break.
Have beaten a modified MR2 Turbo by about a ¼ of a block.
3 modified WRX’s by half a car, a car, and 2 car length.
A modified 5.0 Mustang by about a ¼ of a block.
A 98 type model Mustang Cobra (non supercharged year model)by 2 car length.
A S2000 by 2 ½ car length while missing 2nd gear.
All sort of modified Honda’s many with 1 second head start.
A Stock Audi S4 Turbo by a car.
A Mini Cooper S about half a block , not even funny.
A Chevy Z28 not sure what year or model but had wide tires by 2 car.
A G35 Coupe by 2-3 car then left it about a block through some turns.
A 2G Eclipse with turbo 4G63 engine about a half to a car since he launched and got 1 car length head start. But when I launched, about 1 1/2 car to 2 car.
And some other cars.
My definition of a car length is an evo will fit between my rear bumper and the other cars front bumper.
Lost: None, haven’t met any real power cars like SVT Cobra’s, Evo’s, and STI’s yet. I think I might lose but not by much since I don’t know how to launch. On the other hand, I shouldn’t have any problem beating a stock Evo though or maybe even a stock STI. But how many don't mod these cars.

Almost all these cars were beat from a stop without the clutch drop launches, some were beat with a rolling launch that is roll from a stop while revving up and then drop the clutch . In fact, WRX’s, and few of these cars got a good jump on me ranging from half a car to 1 ½ a car length. It was a catch up and pass by race for me. I think if I had better clutch and knew how to launch well, it won’t be a close race anymore.

I usually shift around 7200-7500 but it’ hard since it gets there too fast. Sometimes I hit fuel cut and see puff of smoke behind me.

Works need to make us a shift light or shift buzzer so I can shift without looking at the tach which is little hard to do while trying to drive straight.

Overall, I haven't looked back or regreted going with the P2. P2 might not look the best on some Dyno's but the overall power band is definitely great and the true potential has yet to be discovered.

Judging by where the max torque comes in, would it be better to shift closer to 7k??

Great post. I had the P2 for 4 months w/o any complaints. Got it at the Works dyno day at ATP. Woke the Evo up and about on par with the STI on most dynos. In fact I think it will beat an STI due to the fact that the Sti doesn't pull that hard to redline. However if you want sick power get Vishnus stage 1+ and cover 99% of the cars on the road. The race gas map is crazy fast and at this time I feel that upgrading to this level of performance was worth every penny. Imagine walking an M3 E-46 from 80-140 on the I-5 on my way home 3 different times starting at different speeds in that range. The last run I dropped it into 4th at about 80 and it was ugly for the M-3. He didn't want any more at that time. He was luckyIi was on my 91 map. I have another story involving a modded Sti but I met the owner and I was on race gas. So out of respect and the fact that he was not on his race gas map i will leave that one alone. P2 is a great mod but at least get the Works cams and really put the smack down. BTW Got the GFB Bov and throttle body so my car still has Works pedigree.

Cams (WORKS, HKS, Jun or Piper) would make a huge difference. I imagine your gas mileage gets worse with cams installed, but none of us really got these cars for their amazing fuel efficiency.

I've had my P2 for months and have no complaints, except for all the extra money I've been spending on gas.

You aren't kidding! Got my P2 Flash yesterday and have been surprised by fuel cut more than once!

$2200 for Stage 1 is kinda pricey for me. Maybe it's worth it, but not to me. After that, the 100 octane at $6 a gallon (if you can find it) is over my budget too!

If money was not an object, I'll be driving a 11 sec. daily driver and a Prius to save on gas and pollution. Now that would feel nice just knowing you got a 11 sec. car that would kill just about anything on the street. But most of all, having a car that has 4 doors and can handle as well as a Corvette is fantastic.
But, it still feels great walking away from lot of V8's from a roll start. A stock Evo would not be able to do that unless you do 5-6K launch.
I'm pretty sure we will see P2 Evo's coming out with 12 sec. runs real soon. It seems not much P2 owners like me go down the the drag strip but one day I would like mine to hit low 12's. Of course, once Wokrs turbo kits come out, we should see some 11 sec. cars.

Actually Jan, you'll get better mpg with the p2 then stock... if you drive it the same way.

driving harder these days Jan?

Mine's gone down, but I think it's because of my foot.

that's about 23 mpg if you filled 13 gal.

how much did you put in that tank to go back to full?

pretty good considering it's a ~3400 lb, awd, TURBO car

i get ~30ish with my b16 in my civic. well i got 28 mpg once but that was with a lead foot for 300 miles. that about all i got on ya now.
