Wierd knock issues, help wanted please

Hi guys car is a JDM 04 Evo 8 FQ300

Full 3" exhaust, decat
Walbro pump
Cosworth panel filter
Gizzmo boost controller MSIBC (22psi)
New Zealand 95 octane fuel (I believe this is equivalent to your 91 octane)

I am getting counts of knock in the 3000-4500 rpm area with varying loads, it is really annoying, I have listened via det cans and its not knocking (Phormula Knock analyzer pro and KS4)

It doesnt knock much on WOT pulls (see attached excel sheet)
I have filtered the other sheet for you guys to see the knock i am referring to

Any help would be great

Phil

if you're positive its phantom knock / fake knock then you can raise your low multiplier knock settings to get rid of the low rpm knock readings... or you can disable the sensor alltogether in that area but i dont do that personally.

by the looks of your how a/f is all over the place it seems you arent editing your fuel map properly either.

thoroughly inspect your intercooler pipe, etc, make sure nothings hitting anything and causing this.. wobble your pipes and make sure
nothing is coming in contact with them.

Not sure what you mean by my AFR been all over the place, I have them damn near perfect I thought for our crap fuel ie 12.5-12 on spool up tapering to 11 at redline

link to my map http://www.geekmapped.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1537

With the knock multiplier I assume raising the number decreases the knock sensor sensitivity? Any suggestions on a rough value or do you just say increase it by 2 points and do some driving and see if knock still there?

Thanks
Phil

i meant it was going from 11.3-11.4 to 10.9, do you want it dropping that rich? is the higher loads of your fuel map FLAT? thats what you want it to look like so you get full control over A/f

yes if you raise the knock multi it will disregard some noise. start by 2 points and repost log.

im going to lean it out towards redline alittle, yes the fuel map is flat at high load/rpm, i like it this way. I will lean it out to 11.2 ish

ya you're good then. i dont know what 91oct is good for, id guess 11.1 max. for spoolup 12.5 id think would be perfect for that fuel.

just to throw this out there, you might want to try pulling some timing in the load/rpm areas its knocking and see if it gets rid of it, if it doesn't then you can confirm its false knock 100% and use the multipliers. If you have those expensive electronic det cans tho, then you pretty much already know its fake.

Yeah i will try reducing the timing 1-2 degrees in those areas 1st. I definately couldnt hear any knock through the knock analyzer pro det cans and the ks4 wasnt registering any spikes either

Its wierd cause im not a 100% throttle either when it does it, and my wot logs are clean

ah..... that tells me your engine at that specific load is shaking more then WOT. it is probably phantom knock, but to be extra safe may as well pull the timing to confirm. I can tell you know what you're doing as it is tho and just wanted to get a 2nd opinion on it.

just an update, i edited the knock multipler in the 2500 -4500 rpm range by 1 point and 90% of my knock has gone now!!

Knock analyzer pro also confirmed there was no knock prior to adjusting

Thanks for your help

glad to hear it. you can raise it slightly more so you get 100% knock free since you have confirmation with cans.
