brake problem...

So I'm doing my brakes for the first time after buying my car from the previous owner, but when I get both front wheels off the calipers have an issue.

The drivers side looks fine, but the passenger side is missing a metal plate on the side pointed toward the front of the car.

2 questions:

1. What is the name of the metal plate so I can order a replacement.

2. How the F could this thing be missing???

Sounds like its the brake cooling guide. I'm not exactly sure what your referring to. Does it look like this http://www.streettunedmotorsports.co..._air_guide.htm ?

If you mean on the back of the brake pad it is a shim.

I'm not 100% on this but I think what you're talking about is the pad pin retaining clip. It helps hold the pins in place by applying pressure against it at both ends. I think you can get it at the dealership. If you can't find them there, you can apply a small amount of rtv sealant to both sides of the pin ends so it doesn't rattle out after long or harsh use.

Knvl

I believe its what you are talking about. Its the long metal plate visible on the caliper on the front side of the car. I believe its what holds the pads in place to keep them from rattling.

...I should have took a pic. Anyone have a name for this piece?
