duralast cmax pads

duralast cmax pads

Decided to try a different pad for daily driving since the OEM pads create so much dust and are noisier than hell. I went with the duralast cmax pads AutoZone sells, after seeing quite a few positive comments about them I figured they were worth a shot.

Ive only bedded them so far, don't really have any mileage on them yet, but I was fairly impressed during the bedding process. They don't bite as hard as the OEM pads but still provide more than adequate braking power for any normal driving condition.

I did keep the stock pads in case I ever decide to put some track time on the car, or in the event the cmax's didn't perform. Time will tell and if I find that they are wearing the rotors faster than the OEM pads I will swap them back.

On a side note, the girlfriend wanted to go with me while I bedded the brake pads and didn't believe that I was actually going to speed up to 80 mph and slam on the brakes a few times. That was pretty funny :P

They're ok.

I will promise you the rotors will not wear faster. Brake dust is actually a lot of rotor and pads. The OEM pads create a lot of dust because they are so hard, creating more noise and wear on the rotors. The C-maxs are much softer than stock.

How much did they run at Autozone?

Hmm, good to know. I had read the speculations that they were harder on the rotors but never came across any threads confirming it or not.

They were about 54 bucks each set. Which I thought was kind of weird that the rears were the same price as the fronts.

Question...are you picking duralast pads cause they are cheap or because they brake Bette than oem pads?

I guaranty they do not stop as well as OE or other aftermarket offerings. Dust is subjective. Stopping power (coefficient of drag) is not.

O yea.. Not even close to stock stopping power. But they create a lot less dust and are quieter than stock pads.

Uhh, Not too sure about this one cap'n kirk

Ceramic Pads will cause accelerated wear of brake rotors, the ceramic material is by nature a harder compound and therefore wears slower than semi-metallic pads. The friction of the pad on the rotor is what slows down your vehicle, so that friction has to wear some component, wether rotor or pad.

Note: This is dependent on the composition of your rotor as well.

I disagree here from a chemistry stand point. Pad hardness is determined by the design of the pad material - ceramic or not. Depends how it was developed. Semi-metallics can turn into carbide when hot. Ceramics have much better heat sinking ability.

Also I'm pretty sure that they aren't a true ceramic pad.
