This project has taken such an inordinate amount of time, I feel like everyone who has been reading this thread is like a 5 year old in my back seat going, "Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?"

And, I am mostly responsible for the impatience.

But we will all be happy when this is done lol

Aby noticed some things on the block (dings on the deck) that will have to get machined out...so there is some additional time involved here besides just waiting for the bearings. That's probably a function of sitting around and opening things up for damage. I don't know if they happened when I had it, or when it went to WPC..but whatever. It adds a little more time to things, but it's good to fix these things now instead of having head gasket issues, etc.

Be careful how much material you take off the deck. I think the service limit is a combined .008" between the head AND block. So you can take .004" off of each, or some other combination to reach .008". Bust past .008" total, you're past the service limit.

Yeah. Aby is in charge of all of that. I know he knows what to do. Maybe they won't deck it. Maybe it will be something else like buffing/sanding/whatever. I asked if the block was junk, and Aby said it was most definitely fixable. But it needed to go to a machine shop.

I forget how much Ed Pink took off the first time. It wasn't much.

Cosworth bearings are impossible to get nowadays, so we went with ACL.

Update please?! Did the block get sorted out by the machine shop? Has assembly started? Inquiring minds want to know.

Block and all components were dropped off with Aby a few months ago. However, he was sidelined for a bit and not on his feet.

He is back on his feet, and I should be able to provide updates in the near future

I think the top of the block may need to get touched up, but Aby indicated it was pretty minor.

I imagine Eric has sent every last part of the car, including the wiring harness, to WPC for friction rueduction, and to his coater to have an oil shed coating put on in the engine bay, so if there's any oil leak, it'll hose off really easy....

Patience is a virtue?

So, still waiting for the engine build to get completed.

A couple of updates. Sent my valve cover to Carlos Tirado to get shaved and painted Apex Silver. Baffles have been tapped and removed, so no material to get into the engine when she's done.

I'll post pictures when completed.

Also, after talking to Fast Freddie, I have decided to eliminate the balance shafts. I was unaware of how much a pain in the neck maintenance is with them in there...both with regards to access and other issues. As a result, I ordered the English Racing smaller oil sprocket/pulley.

Because things are taking awhile, I think I am going to put some bolt-ons on my 335i lol

Maybe find a new engine builder? It takes two-three days to put together a long block...

Get that thing together this year man!
I'd also agree on deleted shafts whenever you are going away from a stock bottom end. Different rods, pistons, material are going to cause different harmonics, putting a larger crank in there will also change things greatly.
I'd put an ATI on any built engine.

There are a few ideas when it comes to lowering the oil pressure of the 4g63. Slowing the pump down is one of them. There is also porting the oil relief and leaving the upper BS in but not functional.

Anyone of those can effect oil pressure everywhere, cams, turbocharger etc..

I hope you get that thing together and start having some fun.

Yes, I have decided no more waiting. It will be done this year.

I have an aluminum Fluidamper, so hopefully that will suffice.

Leaving the upper BS in is an interesting idea. Thanks for the heads up.
