03 OZ Rally build/update thread
Tomorrow's the day! Getting a motor, and I ordered my cheap eBay 4-2-1 stainless header. Picking up a hoist from my work and then I'll go back to the junkyard whenever it arrives. So far I've tucked everything back and removed hoses and such that I won't need for the install. I also organized all the accessories that I'll need to get this dang thing put back together.

Painted the logo on the front black to match the eyelids.

And in other news I blew out my third spark plug well seal set on the Accord. Luckily the next time she'll be driven is with a massive catch can setup and twin -10an fittings!

So I've been very busy the last week. Ordered the engine Monday morning to have it arrive Wednesday afternoon. Picked up my boss's Cummins and loaded her up, got it home and onto the hoist. I then sprayed it thoroughly with SuperClean degreaser (WHICH WORKS AMAZINGLY I MAY ADD) and removed said grease with a pressure washer. After getting the engine to a semi clean form I started transferring the AC Compressor, Alternator, Power Steering pump, flywheel, and all of the mismatched and missing cable brackets that were obviously removed and oddly replaced when they removed the motor from the junkyard car. After about an hour of fiddling with the motor trying to get it into the bay with the transmission installed I said fudge it and took it out, then installing it onto the block as one assembly. Once the engine was in and mounted I replaced the intake manifold and started plugging in all of the miscellaneous electrical connections. I had my mom stop by the auto parts store and get fluids and the numerous small parts/gaskets/seals/plugs/etc. that I needed to get it operable. After about five hours the engine cranked and ran beautifully and is probably the cleanest motor I've ever worked on EVER. The entire head and block are all aluminum silver, grey, or metal colored. No yellowing from fluids which is absolutely nuts compared to what I'm used to; I'm thinking the motor has low mileage due to such great shape.
Now onto my dilemma.... I had my mom work the clutch while I bled it, I noticed a small puddle of fluid accumulating from the bottom of the bell housing and could literally see it squirting out as the clutch was depressed. DAMNIT! In my rage of this engine swap I tore apart the drivers side suspension and removed the dang tranny once AGAIN and ordered a new slave cylinder that night. Car should be 100% drive ready in about 10 days. In the mean time my header came, and I've been working on beatifying components that are rusty and corroded. I also planned out my valve cover paint job and will be replacing all of my vacuum tubes with silicone red ones that I have left over.
Onto pictures, that most of you will actual notice. lol
Sitting on the hoist about to go in for the first time.

Spotless valve train. This is how I pulled the VC off.

Header and O2 installed, not quite sure if I want to wrap it yet.

That's gonna hurt in the morning.. Transmission fell on my arm when we were lowering it.

Onto the parts that I primed/painted tonight.

Valve cover just has high temp primer on it, actual paint will be added tomorrow. Anxious to show you guys my job once its done. Hopefully will look pretty cool.

Then I was tired of the studs coming out of the transmission when I removed the mount so I let them soak in WD40 for ahwile.

Then the stupid slave cylinder that **** out on me...
Any idea if some sort of O-ring or seal is missing? Do they just wear out? I'm using to an independent bearing, fork, and slave cylinder in my Honda.

It lives! New slave cylinder, painted valve cover, and the header installed. Once I get the title I'll be driving this and parking the Accord for the winter. I also need to do some major TLC on the exhaust piping. Holes everywhere.. I also went to Ikea and purchased my cutting boards for the mud flaps. Got the rears on, still thinking of a way I can mount the fronts. Looks good!

I actually had my rear flaps on (had to take them off due to scrapping from hanging too low, lol) but i am also figuring a way to hang the fronts. Mine are kinda light so im thinking of drilling a hole where the tabs for the fender wells are located and having that hold it on as well as use zip ties to firmly keep it in place.

Tonight out of pure bordem I went out and bought a pair of 5.5" offroading lights. Next week when I get paid again I will be buying another set for a total of four lights on the front. Bring it on deer! I personally think they look awesome, and am looking forward to be running two more. Now I just need to figure out where I will be mounting the switches. For the meantime I have the switch hanging out of my blank slot next to the dimmer switch.
In other news, my title finally arrived in the mail and I can finally drive this beast tomorrow! So excited, I'll post a video.

Ok. That looks pretty sweet. I will admit. I have been thinking about doing that to my car also.. Just didn't know where to mount them, but u seem to have it mostly down and it looks pretty good.
And also, have fun driving the car around. It will b a blast I'm sure

Got my front flaps on tonight. You can actually access the two holes very easy from the door jamb with the door open. I love how they look, I also cut the rears so they sit more even and a little higher.
Funny you posted that last night. I actually got both my front and rears put on yesterday on my day off. I have to shortin the fronts but the backs dont scrape and it looks good. As far as the front, I just went the ghetto route and drilled some holes and used heavy duty zip-ties to keep them in place.
Alright, now for some real updates. I've finally got to fixing every fine detail on the car since I've bought it. Reinstalled the AC which I actually had to patch, reinstalled the high pressure PS hose which I had to modify, and picked up a color matched fender from the junkyard. I also upgraded the wiring on the offroading lights with twin 30amp relays and 1/2" toggle switches. Etc. etc.
I also ended up removing the flaps because the rear ones tore off and they were fairly difficult to keep clean. I may end up upgrading to some truck ones and cut them down because I absolutely love the look of it. The car was also silence a lot with a glasspack along with my 2.5" straight pipe. Still looking for exhaust piping for my complete exhaust.
I'm still planning on running NOS and tuning it, but the Accord is my priority. Maybe if I can pick up a wet kit from CL then I will, but not for awhile.
Fixed the janky stereo harness with solder and heat shrink tubing (Like all of my other vehicles lol)

Glasspack on my super sweet home made exhaust.

I also removed all of my wheels for a rotation and cleaned them really well.

Added a 3/8" barb to my intake to retain the factory breather system.

Patch on the low pressure A/C line.

Replacing the damaged fender, I still have to tap and redrill about 4 bolt holes.

Modified the PS hose, there isn't a U-bend at the pump, but it works perfectly fine and looks decent.

Then the upgraded wiring for the offroading lights! The cabin switch is wired to the switched 12v at the stereo so they can only be activated when the car is switched to ACC or ON. I used 18g for the trigger wiring and 14g for the lights and grounds. Then I'll be picking up two inline fuse holders with 15amp fuses to replace the cheap-o ones that came with the lights. Unless I can rewire the fuse holders to hold the newer wiring securely.
