Rims painted?

I noticed on some of the lancers people had painted the stock rim. What kind of paint was used and what kind of preping was done before hand?

Some people powdercoat them. This has to be done professionally, by a place that does low temp powdercoating. High-temp will weaken aluminum wheels.

For actual paint, there's wheel paint kit that you can buy at autoparts stores made by duplicolor. Supposedly does a pretty decent job and holds up well.

I bought the paint and was planning on painting it, but I got to looking at it and saw too many places where it might run( between the spokes) and returned the paint.

Im just gonna save for rims. I have seen them done and they look good, but I have also seen professional jobs and after a while they started flaking. I cant have that.

But if you want to do it Id say do, just be carefull. Clean the rims well and sand well. Good Luck!

The Key is all in the prep. I just painted my rims and aslong as you do a great job sanding and preping the wheels you'll be fine. Just scuff up the wheels real good and clean them really good with something along the lines of acetone or alcohol to remove all the oil or you'll get fish eyes and have to repaint the area. Once you have the prep done its all just a series of light coats. With light coats you shouldnt have any problem with runs.

Has anyone done the powdercoating route. If so how much and how long did it take?

I was thinking about doing my rims this week. I was going to go with a bronze, and paint the center cap mitsu sign black. I think that would look pretty clean on a white Lancer. Or I was thinking about painting them a gloss black like Azures' rims, those came out pretty nice!!
