Question Jack Points with Hydraulic Floor Jack for RA

help!
i just finished painting the rear two calipers on my Ralliart, and afterwards found that the two rear (factory-recommended) jack points are bent and deformed like playdough! what i did was use a hydraulic jack to lift up the vehicle from the side jack point (silly idea ..now i know), then place a 2-ton jack stand on the rear jack pt. (both rear wheels)... after 2 hrs of work and taking down the vehicle, noticed it's all bent bad and deformed now.

now i'm worried to jack up the vehicle to paint the front calipers... any tips/pointers?

1. where is the proper location to place two jack stands? (the factory "side points" dont seem to hold up strong enough)
2. where is the proper location to use a hydraulic floor jack (i'm assuming there should be a location under the hood somewhere for the front.... and a similar location underneath the trunk for the rear?)

Is there actually a underbody diagram or picture to show the proper way to do all this work? thanks!

also is it possible to fix the bent jack point? afraid that the scicssor jacks that came with car wont fit into the jack slot in emergencies now...

thanks Cj98!

i'm actually sitting here clicking "refresh" every 5 seconds waiting for a reply.. my RA is basking in the sun in the parking lot ..waiting for me haha...

btw - i found a related msg about RA jackpoints for stands and hyraulic jacks. quoted below:

"when i did my calipers i stuck the h-jack and the stands just to the inside of the seamy part thats suppost to be the oem jack point. if u look at the jack that comes with the car it has a little split in the center so really ur not actually jackin up from the seam part. just between it from what i can recall."

here's a pic of my h-jack... really wonder if i can place this thing to the *inside* of the actual oem jack point/seam.

The jacking point on the back is at the double seam weld in front of the rear wheel. Chances are you had the right place, as it pretty much always bends and gets chewed up. What some people do is take a hockey puck (assuming you have a jack with the wide jacking plate big enough to fit a puck, like yours), cut a slot in it wide enough to fit the seam weld, then place that on the jack plate.

Hmm never thought of that one otter, i've allways just used a scrap of plywood lying around, as it gets compressed it makes a slot in the board and up she goes.

I know this might sound dumb but when you say double seam weld is that the part that you use that fits inside the stock jack to jack the car up? if your changing a tire

double seam weld.... i'm guessing you're referring *not* to the factory recommended jack point (which is within the two "notches")... but the doubled up seam in BETWEEN the jack point and the rear wheel?

i'm referring to the pic#3 in link below... double seam weld = part where the dude is placing the jack stand for the fronts? (it has two bolts on it)

That picture is the front of the car. His pictures of the rear jacking points (where he places the jack stands, not the jack itself) are correct.

sorry for the newbie question... but to clarify

to lift up the FRONT of the RA:
1. Place the floor h-jack at the OEM jack point and lift (that jack point area is already pretty bent/chewed up)
2. Once lifted, place jack stand at the chasis area (where the two bolts are) - to the left of the actual OEM jack point

Is this correct? I'm only looking to lift the front off to paint the front calipers... Thanks!

After running into the same thing, I bought a jack pad with cut-outs for the seam. It's made of solid, hard rubber, works great. . That seam gets bent up pretty good.

Here's what I bought.
