Jacking Points

Ok, "jack points" in the manual are all near the wheels. So, I ask the question, "how do you get the car up on jackstands?".

On my Honda, there was a jackpoint on the radiator support that lifted the whole front end, and you used that point to jack up the car and put the jackstands under the wheel jack points.

On other cars, you use portions of the suspension to jack up the car and put jackstands under the most solid portions.

Under my EVO, I've found very few (if any) suitable places to place either a floor jack or jackstands.

What's everybody else doing?

On your Honda, the jacking points on the front and rear were the tow hooks, correct?

On the rear, yes.

On the front, to the left of center on the radiator support, there is a welded on "pocket" with drainholes very sercurely welded to the radiator support. It's sort of "bone" shaped, and a floor jack support goes over it quite nicely. This point is noted in the factory service manual as the front jacking point. Using it results in the vehicle slightly tilting as it is jacked, but once lowered onto jackstands, everything's fine.

I figured the rear diff, but how about a hint on the location of the front jackpoint? Radiator support? Underbody stiffening attatchment points?

I can't seem to find that front point to jack the car from... maybe I'm blind. From where the image displays it, I only find the undercarriage cover... does that need to be removed? I'm probably just not looking in the right place I guess. If someone could snap a shop of the front jacking point, that would be awesome.

Yes. The jacking point is underneath the access cover. That's what was difficult to understand for me as well.

So I hate to ask a n00b question, but does this mean that one must first remove the access cover in order to lift up the vehicle front end using a floor jack?

Do you have to remove the cover to change the oil or just to lift the car from the front? I have to change my oil today before going to the track and I was just going to use rhino ramps and save the hassle.

Seems like if you've got ramps, then it's not necessary to remove the access cover. The drain plug and oil filter are both accessible w/o removal.

I actually used the OE scissor jack on the front right mounting point to change the oil. It wasn't so bad. I would've prolly used ramps though if I had them, and jacked up the back end with a real jack to level it.
