Installing springs? DIY or take it somewhere?

Hi, I just have a quick question. I have an '04 RA and am considering getting some Tein s-techs. Question is, how did those of you who have them go about installing? This seems like too major of a job for me to attempt myself and how hard is it to actually do yourself? Or can I take it to some shop and have them do it for me? How much will they charge? Thanks in advance for any insight!

i really wanted mine done right, so i rang a few places to get prices and they wanted upwards of $500 to install them, which was way outside my price range

so i asked around on some car forums and had a guy help me in his driveway for $60, its not by any means easy, but its not rocket science either, as long as you have the right tools, its fairly simple

Sometimes the quoted price looks a bit high because many cars require heating seized bolts with torches, worn and corroded parts break while trying to remove them... you get the idea. Shops know whats probably comin' so they try to be fair but still have to cover themselves a bit in case of unseen mechanical issues.

I need something local, thanks though! I've been thinking about maybe "trying" to install them myself, but I definitely need a garage or some flat surface to work on it..

It can be done in the driveway. I took mine to bud of mines who owned one of those spring compressors to put it on for me. Either way it shouldn't cost much at all.

It really isn't that hard. You will most likely need an impact gun to get the shocks off and spring compressors are a must unless you are dropping a ton, then they might not need to be compressed. I think you can borrow or rent spring compressors from autozone. I think it's only like 16 fastenersnfor the whole job.

Dont go to a shop for something so simple trust me you can do it and your probibly smarter than 95% of people that work at shops. Just read a few how to threads and do it. Its only 5 bolts and one nut perside. Just invest in a can of PB blaster and soak all the bolts and nuts for like 30 mins before you start working and youre golden.

If your lucky, PB blaster will do the trick on those bottom 2 bolts. I broke 3 ratchets, my impact wouldnt break them, and a breaker bar wouldnt break them. Had to drive to a shop, had them torch them and get them loose and then tighten them enough for me to drive back home, and I only gave them $10.

if i get really stuck, i find a regular plumber's butane torch works well, i just takes a bit longer...i was lucky mine came off without too much heart ache, but the impact was the key...one bolt i had the impact on it for about a minute before it let loose, i find it's like getting stuck in the snow, if you tighten, back in out, and tighten, back it out etc. eventually it will let go...then clean it up and put some anti seize on the damn thing...
