Changing headlight bulbs, what a job.

I did it late this afternoon today. The drivers side was easy. The passenger side a total nightmare. I have little hands and had no room to get any leverage to pull plugs off the bulbs. My hands are all scratched up bad. Anyone who has done this knows. I think if the windshield washer bottle neck wasn't right there it would be so bad.

Putting them back in was a cinch. I replaced them Sylvania Silverstars. They look great, but should look better when I can really see them at night.

I can't wait to do the fogs.

It takes a bit of work, especially for me with big hands. There's two tricks to that passenger side light. First off, disconnect the throttle controller. Second, you'd be surprised how much you can bend that washer fluid filler neck.

Whenever I change my lights, my hand is always bruised from pressing up against the throttle controller, even with the connector removed.

yup..all of them..LOL
anyways, trick to passenger side.
dont go straight down near the windshield fluid neck..
im not sure if i can explain this..but go near the engine..put ur arm between the wires and curve it towards the lightbulb area, there is alot of room to work with and will not scratch your hands. if needed, ill take some pictures..
heres a rough diagram.

That drawing looks pornographic.

And I've broken off most, if not all, of those stupid little tabs. By default, at least two must break off when removing the ring, and another 1-2 when reinstalling it.

haha it looks like it says "VW Mivec" haha

But yea all those tabs are gone since i'ves swapped out numerous bulbs. Mainly because i use silverstars in the summer and some generic cheapo brand in the winters (the yellower tint works best for snow IMO)... I also run 3000K for the fogs, but have silverstars for them, but i never use them. haha
I window how hard it is to swap lights with aftermarket projectors...

Thats how i ended up doing it, going underneath the cable there. But my arm was in such a weird position i felt i had no leverage to be able to pull it out, of course getting back in was easy.

I broke a little piece of plastic somewhere, very small piece, don't know what exactly it went to but everything is still holding in place fine.

if you thought the headlights were hard, the fogs are about 10 times harder. First, you need to get underneath the car SAFELY. Next, once you remove all the plastic trim underneat to get to the foggies, you will probably strip the screw inside because it's made out of molded aluminum foil.

I lost all my underpanels in an accident.. never bothered to replace it (not the best idea but o well). I just found some replacement screws for it at work and those seemed to work out well. Matched the thread and size pretty closely too.
