transmission problemo.

i was driving about 2 days ago..when i notice that when i go to nuetral when im stopping.. i hear a vibrating grinding noise..at fist i thought it was my rims..but i checked them and it was fine..i also have a problem shifting into first gear sometimes...it wont get into gear and il have to try 2 or 3 times to get it in gear.. i went to an oil changer and i got the transmission fluid checked and they said it was dirty.. so i had them put new fluid thinking it would fix the problem...but it didnt..so anyone know what the deal is?? everytime i stop i i hear a vibrating grinding noise and i have a hard time shifting to 1st gear sometimes..

I'm not positive but I would think it might be the throw out bearing.

how many miles? if its a shaky grinding, it could be the breakpads getting low. is it coming from the lower front center, or the sides? front breaks should wear out faster than side, but should still take ~15k miles to wear down

Throw out bearing would be my bet too...could be synchros, but not likely to go on 1st gear first - unless you've been in the habit of frequently downshifting into 1st at high rpms.

Have Mitsu check out your tranny.

Also, don't let those oil change places check your fluids, they'll *always* tell you that it's dirty and needs changing, and they're full of crap. You have an '05 RA, I guarantee that your fluid was just fine.

Yeah! And your air filter needs to be changed too!

the sound is coming from the front center..when i stop in nuetral it makes the sound...but when im in gear and i go to a stop it doesnt make the sound...but then its hard to shift it into 1st gear...i dont think its the break pads..it has to be the transmission..il have mitsu check it out tomorrow..it could be the bearing or the synchro..mitsu should cover it since i have the drivetrain warranty...i didnt modify any of the transmission parts yet..so they should fix it...thanks for replying guys..appreciate it.

..and you aren't tryuing to put it into first while moving, right...? It's VERY limited (safety feature) as to how fast you can be going before going into first...nearly stopped, even.

You might want to think twice about that then. Look around the Evo forums, you'll see they have plenty of trasmission / transfer case problems as well. To be quite frank, if you're thinking of getting a car that you DON'T want to mod, I'd take a good look at an STi as well, from what I hear their drivelines are more solid - you just can't modify them like an Evo, nor are they quite as precise a driving tool as the Evo is either.
