Question clutch

I have an EVO7 19,000mls, in 1st 2nd and 3rd under hard acceleration the car pulls ok, once in 4th gear and 5th the clutch starts to slip, it is not doing it all the time, if i depress the pedal a few times it seems ok, any ideas, is there anyway to inspect without removing the gearbox?

if you have a worn clutch, it's more likely to slip in higher gears since there's more load on the clutch in top gear.

also, check the lines. you may have a leak. no leak then you prolly need a new clutch.

Honestly now, have you run the car hard? Dumping the clutch at 3-5000 rpm in 1st and such? Power shifting every chance? If you've run the car hard then yes you probably need to replace the clutch as it's worn (and possibly the flywheel since you may have glazed/warped it's surface). If you've been pretty easy on it with the occasional spirited driving/ quarter mile sprint, you may have bigger problems. Check for leaks like everyone else mentioned but you're probably going to have to open it up to know for sure unless you've tried to adjust it yourself allready. To check your clutch for slippage try this cheap test. Get an old clean blanket to protect the finish on your front bumper and press up against a SOLID IMMOVABLE object like a building or other substantial wall that won't fall over. Then with the car in 1st or 2nd gear, slowly let the clutch out. If your car doesn't stall after the pedal is completely out, you need a new clutch as either the pads are worn, flywheel is glazed (lots of hard launches) or the fingers of the pressure plate are worn. You should ask your mechanic to explain why your clutch failed and how long to break in your new clutch before you can romp on it again. Listen to him and save money in the long run. Good luck!

As a different thing to do instead of ^^^. Just use the ebrake. Pull it on tight and do the same thing. I heard it's better to use 5th since if the clutch is worn, dumping it in 5th when you're stopped won't stall the engine. Clutch has to be REALLY bad if 1st doesn't stall it.

You don't "dump" the clutch in that test. You s l o w l y let the clutch out in 1st or 2nd. If it doesn't stall then the clutch is not fully engaging. It doesn't matter what gear I guess but it's how I was told to do it and it would remove any doubt and allow you to "gauge" how far gone it is if it does stall the engine. Hope this clarify's it a little more.

edit: About just using the ebrake. 1. If it doesnt' hold properly it can drag you along anyways. 2. If it drags you and there's something expensive in front of you.... That's why I said solid IMMOVABLE object so you don't risk running into anything and damaging it AND your car.
